I advice anyone who likes metal to check out the band Textures in my first post. I have already gotten three BoC-lovers into that band (one of whom never really listened to metal before).

Mexicola, I love BC Rich. One of these days I want a handcrafted one. Actually I recently got a Chuck Schuldiner Stealth tribute. What's weird is I don't always like death vocals that much. But it's easy to tune them out when you just view them as part of the overall sound and vibe of the song instead of treating them like you would with say a rock song and clean vocals.

What, you mean there's actually other people than Me into the mighty Blut aus Nord!

I should also add Ajattara and Gojira to the list, I do listen to those on a more or less regular basis, as well as Celtic Frost/Triptykon

Burzum, well I thought Belus pretty much sucked so I haven't really been following since.

About the only thing metal that I like, oh and faith no more if you class them as metal and maybe Mr. Bungle, primus and secret chiefs 3.

Definatly I dont like any of this new metal crap like linkin park etc etc that crap is just problem rock.

I really enjoy Belus. But am kinda bummed out he isn't doing the long ambient outro tracks anymore.

Blut aus Nord is great. high five!

I want to say I like Celtic Frost but the only album of theirs I ever had was Morbid Tales.

EMPEROR - so amazing, In the Nightside Eclipse is just a masterpiece.... i guess i am more into metal than i thought, only albums/bands who make a gesture at class and vision though.

Mastodon are actually so incredible, so many interesting developments in their music. Leviathan is absolutely astonishing.

I don't mind a bit of metal, but the thing I don't like about a lot of metal is it's just not very - for want of a better word - sexy.

It's not their high tide album, MT, but it's not that bad. If you like BaN you will likely enjoy Deathspell Omega, especially Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice and Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum

Mastodon? I never listened to them, but a friend of mine has seen them live and says they're shit. I'll check Leviathan, thx

Mastodon has had some rather shitty live performances in the past. Don't let it hold you back from checking them out. Brent Hinds is an extremely underrated guitarist, the dude is amazingly top notch. Listen to his other bands too.

Magrathea, I tried to look for Deathspell Omega albums at my local record shop. No luck so I gotta wait for them to be shipped to me.

Ah yes, those avant-guarde French metal bands are hard to come about, I'm ever so glad to have found about that band by accident, however how did it end up in HMV in Montreal is beyond Me, I guess they have someone in that shop that really knows Metal...

Usually my shop has good metal selections if you're after something released in the last two years. Lots of surprising stuff shows up in the used area. But it's often hit or miss.

Earlier this summer somebody unloaded most of the Bolt Thrower discography in there. I snatched up what I was still missing.

Met one of the guitarists from Bolt Thrower (Gavin Ward I think?) purely by chance while enjoying an afternoon's paintballing near Coventry around 10 years ago. A nicer person you couldn't wish to meet.

Let me have a blast on his rather expensive paintball gun (several hundred pounds worth - had a mental hair-trigger too), only for it to then jam on him in the heat of battle. I'll never forget the hilarity of him desperately trying to unblock the breach with a twig while absolute carnage ensued all around him.

I've been in some metal bands in the past (drummer). one of my favorite and lesser known (unfortunately) bands is Freighter. I used to play in a band with the guitarist and bassist of Freighter, I also went to high school with them. amazing amazing live show. probably best live rock/metal band I've ever seen. check out bluebeard of bees http://www.amazon.com/Freighter/dp/B001 ... 447&sr=8-4

I've played in a few local bands, gigged a bit around, rhythm guitars, I won't be making a whore of Myself with those long drawn out solos, I'm all for the pounding of a solid rhythm section!

Anyone remembers Metal Church's first album? The two first tracks, Beyond the black and Metal Church were absolute classics. I think I can listen to Beyond the black in a loop for the rest of the day and still enjoy it when hitting the sack.
