Help out! UK wife can't visit husband with cancer in US.

Hey all,

I know there's a lot of transatlantic love going on here so I was hoping you all could take a few minutes out of your day to help out my friend. Basically, the story is that he was diagnosed with brain cancer a few weeks ago. His wife is Welsh and currently living in Wales and rushed to London to get a visa at the US embassy. Once again US Immigration covers itself in glory. At what point are they going to start applying common sense and stop acting like jumped up cowboys after a frontal lobotomy?

This hardly surprises me. The US has been deporting gay spouses legally married in their home states regardless of the health status of the other.

I'm so down on the US right now that I would almost think it is better for this man to go to the UK and have his family visit him. Lord knows his health care would probably be better.

It would certainly be cheaper. For all it's faults I'm currently in love with the NHS.

well definitely again you get what you pay for here in the US. I know this is anecdotal but my step mom's sister has had 3 bouts of cancer in the breast and lymphatic tissue. It keeps coming back and the last time they thought for sure she had maybe one month to live. she makes a lot of money and was able to afford some very unique treatments, even when her lungs filled with fluid, she was able to get a hold of some great drugs and have her doctors working in conjunction with her wishes.

My friend's girlfriend who was rather young (early 30's) went a year or two without a pap smear and developed cervical cancer during that time. It wasn't until she had some odd bleeding that she went in for a check. They found the cancer and did a hysterectomy only to find out the cancer had spread. They closed her up and began radiation and chemo. The radiation burned her rather severely and made her more sick than the chemo. There were no real options other to continue on with what was offered as she had no insurance and no money. She died 1 year later.

And that is health care in these united states.
