Dizzee Rascal and Boards Of Canada

Post by Jobey »

Anyone ever noticed the similarity between the Dizzee track Graftin' and Buckie High?
Only really at the beginning..

That's a pretty remarkable similarity.

Question is, do we have any reason to believe it's intentional? When did the Dizzee Rascal track come out?

The only similarity is the use of a hi-hat sound that doesn't decrease in amplitude during its course (and a bassdrum, but almost every song in existence uses that). The rhythm even isn't the same, so I don't consider these similar, let alone that it's intentional. Once you start experimenting with crafting beats like Rascal it's inevitable that something you produce resembles *something* else, in this case a fairly generic beat by BoC.

I don't think for a second it's intentional.
But it is interesting.

Whilst I agree that its probably not intentional; dizzee thinking, "I know, I'll use the same drum pattern/style of that obscure boards of canada track".. it does show that there are alot of similarites in different genres, and it really gets to me when people can dismiss a whole genre when there are alot of elements of things they do like.. *rant over*

On a completely different note, thanks to Jobey for finding that video, I saw it on some music channel at like 3am a few months ago and I really like the way its shot.
