So I don't really have anything to post at the moment (still using tapes!). Any advice on how best to dump sounds created on cassette into a computer?
I'm still very green, technologically speaking, and am trying to find a program / programs that would be fairly user friendly for a beginner. I have an old Mac G4 at my disposal, and am not sure if there are any good music programs that would still run on it. Anyway, some of you all have created some great sounding music!

make tape mixdowns, go to a nearby college radio, ask them to do a hd transfer. that's what i did.

Well, the fairly inexpensive way would be to buy a tape deck that has an aux out, get a 3.5 mm audio cable and plug the aux out end into your computer's microphone jack. Then, get audacity or some other free audio recorder, tweak the levels so there's no clipping or anything and it picks up good volume without distortion, playback the thing while recording, then finally export the recorded audio as a .wav or .flac or whatever you'd like.

it may pick up the pc hiss if you don't have a really great hd soundcard.
Thank you all for the input. I may try what Rodheh suggested because I do have access to a tape deck with aux outs, as well as some rudimentary sound editors. I will give it a shot and see what happens.

I never get it and I just have a regular old 100 dollars ASUS mobo.
