Your rig and DAW's?

Post by Jonse »

You other guys who make music around here, what's your setup?

I've got a PC with Phenom at 3.4 ghz, 8 gigs of ram and an AMD HD6970, and getting an SSD eventually so I can edit with DAWs and video editing to my hearts content. For software, I've got Ableton Live, Sequoia, Pro Tools (not installed ATM) and good ol' Audacity for sound editing.

Was wondering if anyone else around here custom built their system for music too.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

I think there's already a thread for this

mpd32 and a lpk 25
also, reason but ableton for live crap. reason is amazing for composing but ableton is hands down the best for live performance.

FLStudio 6 on a Dell Dimension Pentium III, with Windows 98.
Yeah baby!
I use Synth1 and FM7 vsts mostly.

I can still make decent music, but I have no ASIO card so there's no way for me to record decent vocals so that destroys a whole dimension.

I would like to get a new computer, Reason 7 and this new controller from Novation:
Image

However that it my budget-conscious dream.

In actuality I would like to nix the computer completely and build a eurorack modular with enough modules for 4 or 5 distinct patches and sequence it with a Sequentix Cirklon (an awesome CV/Gate/MIDI sequencer). I'd also get a bunch of quirky analog synths that accept control voltages. Add a Vermona DRM1 MKIII for drums and voila.

For synths, I use a Roland Juno-D, a Roland D110, and have a Yamaha FB01 that I have yet to use.
For beats, I have the Electribe ER1, EM1 and EA1
For samples, I use an Electribe ESX-1 and a Boss SP202
I use a 2880, DOD DFX9 and a Boss SL-20 for looping.

Everything I record is done by my Tascam DP01, which I then dump the individual tracks (through a long and boring process) into Acid Pro 7, where I edit.

For effects, I've got a Boss PS-3, PH-3, DOD FX32 [Meatbox], a Moogerfooger MuRF, the first and second Korg Kaoss Pads, an Alesis Ineko, and an Alesis Quadraverb as well as a hefty pile of less impressive stomp boxes.

What's so funny about being condescended to by the same particular person over and over again?

I swear, I came to this forum with good intentions and do my best to respect everyone I possibly can, but the same two or three people here that seem to think that antagonism is ttly srsly awesome all the time.

Sure, I will, although you put all that together yourself. Nobody asked you to leave and nobody called your music amateur.

As for the "joke" thing, no. Sorry. I have friends who make derogatory jokes and they don't last for every thing they've said so far in relation to me.

Your joke consisted of a false quote from Boards seeming to imply that my music setup (the topic of this thread) was "nice try", which seems indicative of low quality. Well I apologize Kins- err, I mean Boards of Canada, I don't have a lot of money to purchase a ton of modular synthesizers and set up a professional studio. I doubt you do either.

So it wasn't very funny. It was ambiguous, repetitive and rude, and I don't know what got into you in the past that has made you act in this manner every time you reply to me, but it's in vain of that guy I posted my conversation with here, the one that almost everyone in this forum who replied was in disapproval of. They don't think it belongs here. If you can't post here without acting that way then go ahead, leave us.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

Rodheh... please dude... I don't want to insult your intelligence anymore but you misinterpreted the joke in a very silly way.

The joke is this(and it pains me to slaughter it through explanation):
If you knew anything about Boards of Canada (the band that this forum is about, in case you didn't know), then you'd know that it's very well understood that their studio process is a big secret.
You ask the forum what their "custom rig" is, and Boards of Canada says "nice try".

Sure, maybe it's not the funniest joke ever, but it took two seconds for me to get it.

Roheh, buddy... stop assuming everyone it out to get you. I think you're a cool guy. Your misunderstanding has alienated Kinski, and that's not cool. I don't want to see either of you go. Especially not from an "insult" that didn't even occur.

Okay, maybe that'd have made more sense coming from BoC itself and not a person who has mocked me for several months now in his previous posts which all started when we disagreed about Tool. You must understand that not everyone interprets such vague comments as that one the same? I didn't post this in the Boards section of the forum with the title "What system and DAW's do Boards use?" yet received a joke about that answer. If I was supposed to immediately pick up on it that, then I didn't. I'm so used to so many people acting like dickheads in forums in response and this forum which I though initially was going to be different, seemed to be heading in this direction. If this one particular case was not intended as such a comment and instead as a joke, then I apologize about possibly taking it out of context. I obviously do not have the same sense of humor as Kinski or think/analyze jokes in the same way.

The whole intelligence/pain in explanation thing is highly unnecessary. If you think you need to "insult my intelligence" over a vague joke then don't even bother elaborating on it. Seriously. Not picking up on various social/humor cues and going along with them =/= general intelligence.

Also, as far as getting him to leave I didn't do shit to Kinski. I stated I was unsure what the fuck it meant and he chose to leave. That's not my fault. I didn't leave when he was irritating and described Tool listeners as a bunch of pretentious teenagers, which was a comment I was in distaste of, he shouldn't leave just because I didn't appreciate a joke of his.

Rodheh, dude, Seeya_Later is reaching out to you. And so am I right now. We're trying to be cool to you :) That's all. We see a misunderstanding and we don't want to see someone leave the forum over it.

You're fine, man. <3

My setup is a box of Saltine crackers and a vibrating horse dildo!

No, sorry, I just can't remember what the specs of my PC are. But I use FL Studio 9.

I always feel ashamed for downing FL studio in the past when I read that you use it. :(

I love pretty much everything you've put out.

FLStudio does things differently than other software. It has more focus on sequencing synths which I like. I like Reason for the same reason (really, no pun intended).
