Sorry I searched - but despite the banner up top couldn't find a topic. I just called both my representative and both Senators urging them to vote this bill and its sister bill in the senate (the Protect IP Act) down.

Despite our best efforts, sites like Twoism.org could very well be added to our nation's blacklist. We cannot sleep on this one - writer letters, make phone calls - this is important!

Let's hope this bill won't get through, if it will the internet will change. Which country will follow next and what will the restrictions be? That's why I tried to "scare" the twoism users because one day it might happen.

I put another on the One on Twoism portal. This is music which isn't copyprotected.. but who will carefully look into that once a bill like that is on?

I don't mean to make myself out to be a political activist. I'm really not. But it seems like every once in a while our government totally loses it - and this is one of those times.

Given that so far only people in the Netherlands appear to care about this bill, maybe I've posted this in the wrong place. It seriously took all of 15 minutes to contact my Reps.

Thanks for taking an interest Robin - this affects all of us.

While I am quite worried about this bill, I doubt it will be passed. I haven't seen it mentioned that much by news networks (if at all). Congress has tried to pass tons of ridiculous bills like this before. If it does somehow get passed, hopefully it'll get vetoed by the president, or deemed unconstitutional by the supreme court. If for some reason this country does go completely insane and this passes I'm sure people who really want their freedoms back will be able to work around this. I have a good feeling the government won't do a very good job at blocking millions and millions of websites they don't approve of. This country's made some really stupid decisions before, but remember that things as absurd as probation have come and gone.

The reality is, per reports, that there is broad bi-partisan congressional support for this bill. That Congress has been in Hollywood's back pocket for years is no secret - the only way to get their ear here is to convince them they will not have jobs next round if they pass this garbage.

Don't be passive - make the call.

Last week there was a small meeting at Mozilla to discuss SOPA, the Internet Censorship Bill.

It was eerie. The DC groups were practically screaming, "this bill is the worst we've ever seen and we can't stop it" -- while everyone else had barely heard of it. The consensus? We needed to wake people up.

Well, yesterday the Internet woke up. *You* woke the internet up.

The scary part? We still might lose. Though growing fast, our coalition still isn't strong enough.

The bill is backed by an unholy alliance of Hollywood, its unions, drug companies, and the Chamber of Commerce. They are pouring money into it, and they've been working on this for years. Yesterday, big players like Tumblr, Mozilla, Reddit, BoingBoing, and even 4chan came out strong on our side. Now it's your turn. We've got to dig in and go viral.

very happy to see you guys into this. censorship at this level is absolutely ridiculous.

It would be wise to remember that the same people who would stop you from viewing an adult film may be back next year to complain about a book,
Or even a tv program.
If you can be told what you can see or read,
Then it follows that you can be told what to say or think. defend your constitutionally protected rights.
No one else will do it for you.

Agreed. I think protesting, setting up camp in city park, holding signs and screaming with no real direction, has come to its end. The way to get things done now is the net. Petitions, getting everyone on the same page (pun intended) is the way to go.

I removed the banner on top because it has been there long enough now. It pleases me to see that there have been 353 clicks on the banner.

The other day I sent them a request for decent banners as they certainly need them to reach an even wider audience and they just replied that they liked the idea and will look into it. Would be great if my idea actually result in a variety of available banners

I've heard the idea that if SOPA/PIPA do not get passed in one way or another, the "Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011" will be brought back up with new revisions similar to the former two bills. This will get passed with little fanfare, because nobody wants to go against something that could make them out as a pedophile.

This is all speculation, but I feel like spreading a rumor today.
