It has also been used in some 80s tribute band, which probably doesn't matter. Im really excited about the name but I don't want it to ever cause me any trouble. Any opinions?

You think that "Smokes" could upset the copyrighters? How about "Smokes quantity" then?

Ah, I had a similar problem with Frequent C. The name has been co-opted by several others, mostly rap artists. Granted, it's not the most original name in the world. It's still a shame because I put in a lot of work under that name. So, what I did was got rid of all my profiles, e-mails, sites, etc. under that name, and started up new ones under my real name. This way, I can release different material with different project titles, all under the same header. It might be a little drastic, though. I virtually killed my web presence, but I didn't want to have to go back and change all my Frequent C releases, and I wanted some continuity for future work. I'm a stickler for continuity, order, etc.

Nobody has ever come after me for Frequent C. What pissed me off most was one of the others were touring, and all the venues the he went to had links to MY music, profiles, bios, etc. listed on their pages. This guy never bothered to let the venues know so I had to do it myself. Also, I started under that name before him. But, fuck it. I'm moving on.

This has happened to me too many times, in the end i just settled on a random letters that sounded like a word, seems to work for me. The fact is with the internet around it's hard to come up with a cool selection of words that hasn't been used by someone at some point, best thing to do is be really out there and just call yourself something really strange rather then a phase that is well known. Because if you're a good artist people will begin to associate the name with your music rather then what the actual words evoke. Sometimes i like to step away from an artists name and really think about the words;

Radiohead - Doesn't really sound anything like the music they make, more like a 80's metal band.
Boards of Canada - when i first heard this name i though, what a stupid name.
Daft Punk - I mean really think about the words, if i knew nothing about the band i don't know what I'd think.

But i love all these names because of my associate with the music when i read them, so yeah choose something weird and eventually it will work - that's my advice.

Almost every non-entirely pulled out of the ass artist name has been used sometime before. You should't worry about it. As long as you don't use someone else's extremely specific name, like "Boards of Canada", or "Nine Inch Nails", or "Deadmau5" or anything like that, it's completely fine to use a name that someone else might have had, "Members Only" or otherwise.

If it's an artist as well established as Kaskade, I would go with something else just in case.

Someone on SoundCloud is using 747Music. How the hell does that happen? I mean come on! 747Music!?

Once I have things going a bit better for myself I want to start 747Film. This will be my project name for the videos I make for my songs. I don't know as of yet when I'll be starting that, but I have lots of ideas already for films to make.
