Out of respect for all the artists he's apparently name-dropped.... he should stop making music forever, and write a de-manifesto.

I've bitched about him a lot before, most recently here: http://analogueanddigital.smackjeeves.c ... 41/occupy/

He likes good music, as does Deadmau5, but they still happen to make some of the worst electronic music around currently, so fuck them.

Also, I highly doubt he is making brostep because he loves to... but you know what? If he is still making it once the mainstream popularity dies, then I'll take back my comments of "sell out", and instead just think of him as a talentless cunt, but until then, he is a talentless sellout cunt. :D

(I'm not even sure Skrillex can be considered a "sell out"? Did he ever make an album that wasn't mainsteam garbage? I know Deadmau5 used to make less-accessible music (which was still quite shit) before he sold out... but did Skrillex?)

I don't think he's nescessarily a sell-out by definition since he has always made mainstream garbage, but I don't think that elevates him to any higher status since in any case as said, he just makes what is popular at the moment.

Pure shite. Plus he's name dropping artists like boc and aphex to appeal to people who listen to them to be "arty" and "kewl", not genuine fans.

I really like Deadmau5...Skrillex not as much, but he's still a very good artist. They may be mainstream tracks, but there's a lot of production value and interesting things going on in the mixes of a lot of their songs & the progressive building they both do sometimes (more Mau5 than Skrill) make me thankful that they haven't completely sucked the dance element out of dance music.

Deadmau5 has dropped Boards of Canada millions of times. And the lovely "Bored of Canada" track. He has a lot of IDM stuff on his earlier records that are quite nice. Not so sure what Skrillex has done beyond the remixes he's a part of & the scary monsters track.

Lots of respect though.

So because he has a good taste in music we should love the music he makes because of it? Really?

As stated before, I enjoy Skrillex regardless. But, I agree with this statement.

Don't like his music, but he does his thing. It's simply dance music that'll lose it's hype in a year or two.

Still doesn't make me feel grossly disappointed in Joel Zimmerman for signing him to his label.

He doesn't need to stop making music, but I would like to stop hearing about him from random people who have jumped on the Skrillex bandwagon.

Edit: Just saw the pic of him with the Aphex shirt. I do not like his appearance.

Fuck you all. Listen to you.

You spend all your time whining about how ugly and unhappy you are with yourselves in the "drunk" and "depression" thread, then you come in here and go "screw Skrillex he makes mainstream shit and he looks ugly".

Seriously, everyone take a fucking reality check, right now.

I've never posted in those threads but honestly I don't see the connection here. Care to elaborate?

Who said he looked ugly?

And how is reality not in check?

I don't like Skrillex, and while I feel a strong distaste for his music, I wouldn't take my time to rail against it aimlessly out of nowhere, so I typically don't contribute to the internet hate machine. Here's the issue here though. OP came here with a specific, apparent message trying to convince us to think differently of Skrillex SOLELY on the criteria that he happens to like artists of our own kin, as in IDM artists, Ambient Techno artists, etc.

Now why the fuck is this a valid point? It's not. It absolutely is not. I'm not going to go after the OP personally and be rude to them because they used a point I don't seem to see any reason behind to make us think differently of an artist we dislike because of their sound, not their personal preferences, but I am going to state my opinion, everyone else is doing the same thing, at the moment there's not a serious amount of hostility in the thread compared to past threads, and the last fucking thing anyone needs is for anyone to come in and just say "fuck you all". No offense intended but that's HIGHLY unnecessary Nicole.

Okay, I'm sorry, I just don't understand why people hate Skrillex so hard, like he's ruining music or something. I like Skrillex but regardless of whether his music is your thing or not, I think there are a -lot- more worthy targets for everyone's ire than Skrillex in the music world. Just because he's popular doesn't make him a menace to the artform or something.

There certainly are a lot worse, no doubt, and I agree. People shouldn't literally hate musicians like they do just because they have a different taste in music. It's a shallow thing to do, and he's not destroying the art form because he makes "simple mainstream" music.

I would prefer it though that people don't try and tell me that musician's taste in music and use it to somehow make that musician seem better.

Also, I change my mind about the hipster douchebag thing. He kind of looks like that to me, but he could be a nice guy, I have no idea. OP, you probably know more about who he is than I do and I don't want to say he is a hipster douchebag when I don't even know for sure.

I wasn't being serious. >_>

I've got nothing against him, he makes music that I don't enjoy. That's all.

Actually scratch that, not even I don't enjoy, I just don't care for. I'd listen to it, it's good in some parts. If it's on at a party I'll dance to it

My main problem with him is he seems to take a UK dubstep and some what move it from its roots and now everyone thinks dubstep is all wub wub wub but it isn't.
That's the dick in me speaking out though.

Skrillex is not reaaally my cup of tea, but I am really greatfull for dubstep being the new thing in clubs. I much rather dance to skrillex than Tiesto anytime.
