You know, when you are living inside of something, it can be difficult to see the view from outside of it. Meaning, it can be pretty easy to forget how much of a military presence we have here, around the globe, not to mention all the pushing and shoving we do in the world. It's ingrained into our world view that that's just the way it is.
Eventually we would once again have to make deals with other countries for resources, unless we can manage becoming 100 percent sustainable, which would surely be something worthy of striving for. We certainly couldn't just go bring back our old industrious, resource consuming jobs if we plan on cutting our ties and maintaining a growing population. We would have to do some serious re-adjustment.
Yes. And for the record, I don't think Ron Paul is suggesting severing our ties with EVERYTHING and reforming EVERYTHING if he were elected as so many suggest him to be.
He's constantly portrayed as this extremist...he's not. He's just not accepting of any action that has been carried out in a non-constitutional manner. That's about it. I know several people that are WAY more extreme in the same regards than he is. We generally call these people
anarchists, or "Libertarian Socialists". Ron Paul's not some crazy ultra-libertarian anarchist who pledges allegiance to statelessness with his right hand on a copy of Atlas Shrugged. He just tends to align himself more with libertarians on average than Republicans or Democrats. Go figure.
Also, this is off topic, but I really appreciate this:
I love how he just blatantly lays it out how waterboarding is torture in front of all these Republican fuckwads and many of them just sit there, silent and bitter. He does the same thing in his book and directly accuses the government of being the sick fucks they are in terms of interrogation.
And people say things like "he's unelectable because he says crazy things like this", meanwhile he has a HUGE crowd of supporters at this point in time and is mentioned all over the internet. I think he's, at the very least apparently, the most honest candidate I've had in my lifetime and as unreasonable as it might be to say this when compared to the history of this country, I do not think he has any sort of flip flopping or bullshitting quality to him whatsoever. That particular trait is one of the reasons I support him exuberantly despite actually disagreeing with quite a few of his personal beliefs and opinions. I will take an honest to god superstitious person over a lying scumbag any day of the week.
