I caught an EgyptAir flight from Cairo to Muscat last night. I can't remember what I was listening to on my headphones when I boarded, but when I took them off to sit down, the pre-flight background music was Satellite Anthem Icarus. A bit surreal, but made me smile.

During Monday nights edition of Panorama, which was all about internet trolls of the worst kind. The internet is evil - apt to use BoC tracks, then...!

The actual strangest place to hear BoC was on an advert for Sky News, best part of 10 Years ago. IABPOITC played through the whole advert while news readers appeared in viewers / listeners front rooms, places of work etc. as if they were being told the news in person. It was a strange (but well made) advert. Last time I checked it wasn't on YouTube, alas.

I just heard Constants Are Changing, Dayvan Cowboy, An Eagle In Your Mind, Wildlife Analysis, and Oslon on a Norwegian-produced documentary called "En Sterk Historie: Ole Torp i USA" that premiered Monday. It primarily explored the hardships of reservation life at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation (Oglala Soux) in South Dakota. Knowing that Norway is often willing to pay a shitload to artists, I hope BoC got a good paycheck this month. How does that work by the way, does anyone know? Is Warp primarily the beneficiary? Set price per usage, or per song?

More television use of BOC to add to previous observations:

Spotted on the BBC1 programme Country Tracks yesterday morning - Chromakey Dreamcoat played near the start, then a little later used Amo Bishop Roden. Nothing else notable for about 15 minutes after so I thought that was it - and then Oscar See Through Red Eye came in. Quite a surprise to hear three like that. I heard this when it aired on the telly, but I'm sure it can be checked on iPlayer even if it is a repeat.

Similarly, recently saw The Man Who Forged America, a documentary on BBC4 (interesting programme too) but it was first shown in 2003 - the soundtrack is chock-full of Geogaddi.

An episode of Springwatch from a couple of years ago used Pete Standing Alone for one of the VTs, and it suited. The oddest BBC use was probably an edition of Football Focus (maybe a few years ago - I lose track of time), where they decided to set a montage of a team who'd had a terrible match-losing streak to the sound of EYDIAB!

Possibly the most interesting occurrence to me, was a recent BBC2 overnight 'Learning Zone' Art & Design clips programme for schools - which played Alpha And Omega moments after showing an archive clip featuring old BBC2 symbols from when I was a bit younger -- familiarity and nostalgia, followed by the familiarity of music that is evocative of a certain nostalgia!

Sometimes, it's only hearing a track in that way - playing unexpectedly and outside of the context of the albums - that really helps to highlight the individual quality. Perhaps because, it's much easier to appreciate when it isn't nestled within a crowd of other equally good tracks all deserving of much the same attention.

well i just about pooped my pants just now.

there was a power hiccup at work this morning that knocked out our hardware net-content blockers, so I decided to startup iTunes and get a radio station going (normally blocked). I haven't used iTunes radio in at least 8 years, and I just completely randomly picked "Amerika Now" under talk shows. I caught the last 10 seconds of some interview, then it went straight into a 30-secondish EYDIAB bumper. I had to check my taskbar to be certain I had no BOC open in other windows or something.

what a strange coincidence!

I heard another BOC track tonight on a show on ABC in Australia.

It's called "Louis Theroux: Law & Disorder in Philadelphia"

Synopsis
Award-winning documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux signs up for his most dangerous assignment - patrolling the crime-ridden streets of Philadelphia (nicknamed Killadelphia) with the local law enforcement.

Louis joins Philadelphia's police department, patrolling an area that has over 400 homicides a year, drug dealers on every corner and where carrying a gun is part of everyday life.

Louis talks to a group of corner boys, low level drug dealers, to understand from them why they think there is so much crime and violence in their city and why snitching is considered so bad.

Embedded within Philly's rapid-response team, Louis feels a palpable sense of adrenalin mixed with frustration as police and gangs take each other on night after night, but there's also camaraderie which develops between the officers despite these hugely stressful situations.

Louis senses a society trying to contain a lawlessness born out of poverty, mistrust and segregation. Over time, he sees a complex picture evolve; yes there are good guys, bad guys, guns and violence but there is also tenderness and compassion found in the most unexpected places.

By virtue of what they see day-in, day-out this life inevitably takes its toll on the officers who, paradoxically just like those they are policing, find it very difficult to ever feel safe and to ever completely trust others.

I can't contemplate how awesome it is to hear BOC on television or anywhere unexpected. It makes my week even if it's only a few seconds.

Yep, that one's been noted here before. If memory serves correctly there's a chilling Philly streets montage set to Everything You Do Is A Balloon.

Very true...I've heard Rue the Whirl and Peacock Tail frequently on This American Life and Radiolab. This was probably mentioned but Rue the Whirl is used for a few seconds on an episode of Spaced.

Regularly fall asleep to Chill radio, a digitial radio station which I think is now solely on the net. But last night I woke up in the middle of the night and heard Peacock tail playing, it was lovely :)

Also, the BBC regularly use their tune for various shows and intermissions.

So far, the best story I've read here would be Tontonz's stranger party (Quote: I didn't even realize that we were in some random person house and not the party lol. Turns out they were trippin balls, so we just left.)
--
The only three times I've heard BOC out in the wild would be...

First time was before a Digitalism show in Montreal, back in 2007, when I was just starting to listening to them. It was a Geogaddi song, I think but I can't quite recall... Shortly after, played Mezzanine by Massive Attack while the two guys from Digitalism gave an interview one table from me. And I tried not to be an absolute fanboy about whoever put that music there, at that right moment.

Second time, that would be the strangest place ever I've heard them. About a month or two later, I was shopping with my girlfriend for dishes in a Stokes or whatever, and then... The Beach At Redpoint was playing. I thought for a second that it would've been the broadcast radio, but then who would put such a song in a dishes store, except an outcast employee? XD

Third and last but not least, last April, I was watching television, changing channels each second, bored as f***, and then stop at an independent Quebec movie called "À l'Ouest de Pluton". Why? Because I had no idea it was a movie. It was just some kid riding his skateboard to "Dayvan Cowboy". And that was enough for me... till it played somewhat later, once again. After the end, I decided to see the whole thing, and another surprise was waiting for me: it also played "Sixtyniner" at the beginning!

I'm just gonna end on something Saurus may find funny, somewhat related to what you wrote earlier. You know what's nice about digital jukeboxes? They can't be limited by the length of a vinyl record. So a friend and I decided one night we'd search for a particular Pink Floyd song. You know, the one that goes on for 23 minutes? Oh yeah. We played Echoes. Betcha the customers at your pub didn't looked at you the same way those rednecks stared maddly at us when Echoes reached that weird echo-y kind of noises in the middle of the song!
