I think this hardline approach that you are taking is what's causing so much confusion in this thread. Alzado asked a really simple question - do we have any reason to believe that Boards of Canada still exists? All people really had to say was yes or no, and possibly give some speculation or any news they might have heard regarding this specific issue.
I am not referring to the original post, more the flaming which has been going on. People constantly questioning Fred E and MDG who clearly have more knowledge on this area, or at least more informed connections with whats going on. People are deliberately causing hassle for the sake of it. Not cool.

I just wonder why people have to start acting like dicks whenever somebody asks a question. I got news for you that do it: the level of maturity and cool that you claim is false. This thread would be finished if people didn't have to make the irrelevant point (for the 300th time) that boc owes nothing. Thank you Captain Obvious. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

Same thing with people asking me or whoever to grow up. You grow up. Anybody that thinks conversation should stop needs to grow up.

We would all love to hear from them directly, whatever form it takes. Can't we all just admit that? They used to post shit on their web site all the time, even if it didn't make apparent sense to us. I wonder why they've stopped? One vague message or image from them would set this place on fire. You all know it. I'd love for something like that to happen again. Remember how much fun that stuff used to be?

Okay, yes I and others have reiterated the point that you are owed nothing. But similarly you are reiterating a question absolutely no one knows the answer to besides MDG, so why continue to elaborate on a moot point?

The conversation does need to end, because if you use the search function you will perhaps find unbelievable amounts of speculation on this topic and there was no need to ask this already done to death question. Fair enough you are new, but as an intelligent person you should be able to conclude that this question has been asked and debated thousands of times, and that information is merely a click away.

Thirdly, sure, when did anyone say they didn't want to know what the band are up to, the only thing we can do is speculate and hell we have done plenty of that. There is no clear answer unless the band is explicit with something, that's part of the fun of being a fan of this band. Mystery is exciting. The only thing we can do is sit and be patient, as mundane as that is, it's the only way we can get through this long absence of material without killing one another.

well enough, but the point is that the longer we go between releases, the more people will start to comment and question.

Okay. I've seen this before, and seen how these things tend to work. Stick with me here..

In my (pre interwebs) teens I spent an obscene amount of time catching up with and following the death throes of a UK synthpop group who'd been prolific since the early 80s. They released a 'best of' cd to buy some time. Inevitably a year later they went their seperate ways. For the next 3 or 4 years I waited for news of the intended spin-off project via fanzines, newsletters and so forth. Snippets of info, text reviews of preview clips from those 'close to the band' were published. Fans like me waited, salivated, wore out our imaginations with ideas of what we could expect, and hoping that the release would be an amazing success, etc.

Eventually in 1994 they released an album. It was..ok. However, by then it didn't matter that we knew they were active and working all the while. Personally I'd moved on musically. so had many other fans. The album sunk without trace. It wasn't necessarily the fault of the band. Family and legal matters got in the way and slowed them down, forcing them to focus on their lives outside of the music for a while. Sound familiar?

My point is this; it'd be great if BoC released something new. I 'believe in MDG' (if that's how it's best phrased?). Yet we'll all live if new BoC doesn't happen, or if it happens under a new guise with a new direction. BoC are still, by far my favourite musical thing on the planet and have been for a number of years. However, most groups don't live for ever and things do change. Seriously, no group is worth this amount of online angst or rage, and no amount of online angst or rage will realistically change BoC's course or force them to release music. And based upon previous experience I have a hunch that unless there's news of a definite release date, our knowing that they're active in the studio or 'working on something' isn't really going to fully sate the thirst for news. It's all just a bit pointless.
I'll see you when the sun sets east, don't forget me.

I don't know anything about the recording industry. Is it possible they are running out their contract with WARP to claim complete control of their work? In that case they would not be able to talk about any potential release legally during that interim?

I doubt their WARP contract is based upon years on the label. If they still owe WARP an album that will be the case this year or in 10 years time.

I don't really understand what all the fuss is about. It doesn't bother me in the slightest that we don't hear anything for months/years. I'm never short of great music to listen to...

Enough of the bickering!! lol

I guarantee you one thing. If BOC activity in twoism and watmmer slowed down to almost nothing, if everyone was getting really peeved and seemed to be abandoning the band, I bet you all something more substantial would be said. But as long as part of their fanbase is alive and well and slaughtering each other on here it seems there is no need for Warp to get unduely worried. As we all seem to be present (though not sure about correct).

True?

Talking is the language of humans

Silence is the language of God

I think Boards Of Canadas music is the most spiritual music I ever heard (including Arvo Part and those who are religious and all)...

Ofcourse they have claimed and stated in many interviews the way they look at things and thats very kind of them...please go and read them, a lot of interesting points are made on how they look at certain things.

If you guys look at the world right now...seriously, if you look at the world RIGHT now...what do you see?

There is not much for BOC to say! I mean what could they release these days??? I can't even imagine it---words are superflous.

Remember back in the days when one of the brothers was depressed and didn't even wanted to finish/complete the Geogaddi album until the 9/11 happened and that inspired them to finish the album...it seems like they really must have something to "say" for them to release music, and you can't take that for granted these days, its very very rare (we are not talking about just "good music" here).

I can understand BOC that they don't want to release anything these days...

Be patient. Its hard- Patience is a virtue.

[Conspiracy Theory=TRUE]

The brothers had handed Warp the whole content of AFOT, R35 and OTv2 for a box set release thus completing their contractual obligations but because of a dramatic fallout with Warp they decided to leak the tapes themselves to undercut the schnauzer-eating bastids.

Since the leak happened BEFORE the brothers released TCH/TCH then it must be surmised that they also discovered time travel and that all their future work is really embedded in the patterns of cave paintings around the world and will become complete again only when plate tectonics brings all the continents together again.

[Conspiracy Theory=FALSE]

Essentially, they owe you absolutely nothing.

Also using the scenario of the world ending is hardly comparative, this is art which merely affects you on an enjoyment level, as opposed to a life threatening and moral issue, which affects the entire globe.

Why can't people be happy with what they have, it's inherent human nature to obviously want more of a good thing, but I would like to think as intelligent Boards of Canada fans we have learnt patience, and ultimately acceptance if they are not a band anymore (which clearly isn't the case).

Be pragmatic about this situation. When the time is right, the time will be right and it will be all the sweeter if people learn to be accepting of the bands wishes.

Grow up.
Not quite sure how the phrase "grow up" is relevant here

Seems to me that in this context (and most of them, really) it's just an ad hominem attempt to imply that the opposition is acting childish which holds no rational ground

So no, you grow up.
Growing up generally means you have learnt to be patient and accepting of what you already have. You aren't even questioning anything BoC related now and are just causing argument for the sake of it. No one has any information besides MDG and it's pretty well established he's a band associate, so unless you still want to believe in conspiracy just shut up and wait like the rest of us. We are waiting too, but we aren't making a massive problem out of it.

The only people making a "massive problem" out of it are those who assume everyone asking a simple question or making the simple statement that it'd be nice if BOC said something, thinks BOC "owes us something"

There were no problems in this thread until you "WOW IDIOTS BOC OWES YOU NOTHING" trolls came in it
