The majority of it isn't actual speculation though. Just frustrated rants. Random unrelated topics. And just generic BoC chat that's not specifically about a new release.

July 25th 2012, Mayan day out of time. My prediction for the album

here we go again
A clearance in a wooded area, you startle a deer, it runs into the pines. Vast turquoise lakes and icy rivers, crisp mountain air. A bald eagle soars above. The distant sound of a chainsaw. Redwood smoke

Assuming a double album, what would be your hopes and expectations, if any?

It would be pretty cool for example if disk 1 was comprised of brand new material and disk 2 was re-mastered old / previously unheard tunes or even acoustic versions of MHTRTC.

The idea of a potential double album is pretty exciting I think.

a year since the black box is a curious date. not expecting much, but it'll be weird knowing it's been there for 366 days straight (leap year!)

Oh yeah, for sure! :D

A double album would be just fantastic. But a triple one? EVEN BETTER! One disc with their greatest songs, one disc with new material and one disc with their early songs remastered.
If that came out, I'd be getting it ASAP!

Isn't it the one year anniversary of the black box? Not that it's terribly important.

So i finally dreamt about a new album. There was a 30 second sample that sounded nothing really like Boards on their website, and in the black box it said it would be released in august 2013...lets just hope that doesnt happen

Has it seriously been a year that that black box has been there? Holy fucking shit...

I'm starting to think the black box is just a symbol for 'period'. "That's it, it's over, we're happy with what's there" Not that I'd bet any money on it; the brothers might drop a new release tonight, but I'm starting to lose hope again.

"Hey there's an update for the PHP script that draws the discography. Oh hey, applying it made a black box appear"
"Huh"

I'm sure they didn't put the box up as a "goodbye", when they know they used the same box to confirm a release last time. Unless they're THAT cruel..

This is what I've been saying. It is absolutely amazing that it has already been a whole fucking year. You guys just need to throw in the towel and move on. I certainly have.

I still enjoy this forum and all of their past releases, though.

i had a dream last night that i was camping in algonquin park (a place i visit every summer and a very good place to enjoy BoC) and was canoeing to a portage where i met up with a couple of people. we chatted as we worked our way down the portage when the topic of music came up and the guy says "oh have you heard the new BoC?" and i dropped the canoe and practically raped the guy to show me. he pulls out this gatefold cd set from his backpack, it was the elusive BoC set and had 4 cds, the first two were selected material from the old tunes that were remastered/renamed and then two albums of new music. the front cover was a picture of chernoybl and in the bottom right hand corner said boards of canada, then every other picture inside was pictures of other disasters (the hindenburg, 9/11) it was kind of bizarre but oh so beautiful

i think i woke up with a boner

August 2013 release date? 1 year, 5 months? I'd take it hands down!

I think we can say there is finally definitive proof the new album is coming.

It won't be on a specific date, it'll probably just come out of the blue.
And we'll all shit ourselves because of the wait. And Warp will a cool record label again.
