My best friend's into BOC about as much as I am and I have a few other friends who a mildly into them. Besides that I'll share my interest every now and then if I think there's a chance of someone liking them. But most of the time I realize most people aren't that much into music in general, much less electronic music, much less a very specific region of electronic music. It's not such a bad thing. You get surprised sometimes.

There are 3 people (2 of those are people I rarely see though) I know who listen to BoC and they were so much happy (in a surprised way) when they saw me wearing BoC T-shirt. It's almost like there is an instant mutual respect.
However, I know a bunch of people who listen to the similar music no matter if it's IDM, indietronica, post rock, indie rock, ambient... etc. and almost none of them listen to BoC or at least want to admit that they are good. That is true mystery to me. I mean, they listen to so much similar music (even some bands BoC remixed, for example: Why?) and yet they totally ignore BoC.

Funny you mention that - I made my dad a 4-track sampler CD with "Aquarius," "Kid for Today," "Dayvan Cowboy," and "Everything You Do..." on it. I warned him about the silly voice samples on "Aquarius," but I think he liked it, as well as the other tracks. For a dude who grew up with the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix and such, he's pretty open-minded to electronic music. I mean, I got him into Four Tet, and my brother got him into Demon Days by the Gorillaz, so I'm pretty impressed.Ender wrote: I tried introducing them to my parents once. I think I played Aquarius and I just remember them thinking it was silly, with the random voice samples and such.......
Slightly more on topic - my best friend, another friend, and my brother all listen to BoC by varying amounts. To my knowledge, no one else that I know listens to them.
I have a stoner friend that likes BoC, my two best friends like 'em, a guy that lives five minutes down the road from me likes 'em (I live out in the middle of nowhere too), a group of friends I have in the closest big town CLAIMS to like the duo and one of 'em out of the bunch says he hates them for no reason, it's very obvious none of them have even listened though, my mum likes them, and my girlfriend thinks they're alright (I didn't even make her a mix CD
She knew what's up).
That's enough people for me.
Usually when I bring them up to someone who doesn't really listen to anything in that vein they just dismiss it. Then again, I pretty much ignore the conversation fr a couple of minutes when names like Attack Attack or Bring me the Horizon are brought up so it's whatever.

i discovered BoC through napster when searching for "trippy music" as i had just got into the 420 scene. it turned up a couple BoC tracks but the one i downloaded for whatever reason was kid for today and its probably my favorite track of all time. other artists i discovered through said search was air, ltj bukem and neotropic so i have very fond memories of napster
i've turned on all of my stoner friends to BoC and they've in turn turned on other people so in my group of say 30 friends, we've probably "infected" close to 100 people and created BoCheads
and i would have to say that BoC is my favorite band, hands down and i listen to a variety of music but nothing else has ever created such a lasting emotional impression with me like the boys have

I don't smoke and yeah, that's exactly right - without question the top selection from the TCH EP. It has a great energy.Lens Larque wrote:You don't have to be high on pot to enjoy Skyliner. That track is the freshest track of them all.
I've not introduced anyone to BOC - I only regularly see a few folks. I've put a couple of tracks on compilations for when hitting the road, but I've never properly mentioned to others or encouraged anyone I know to seek my played artists out. Maybe my judge of character is telling me it won't be anyone's cup of tea whom I know closely - when you know people for so long, you understand their tastes and can roughly measure the likelihood of these things... So we have our individual distinctions, and I think that's how it should be.
I found BOC myself because I was searching for music of a certain mood and tempo that sparks something, is on the right wavelength - I got there, which in turn has led me here!
If I'm looking to chat BOC with anyone just now, I think this community is a pretty good bet - and to be honest I'm very content with that
"oh don't they sound like squarepusher or something"
"never heard of them..."
"well actually i own all their tapes. i'm the cousin of their family and i have a large beat up van with all of their old stuff in there. i also just so happen to be so nice enough to let some stranger touch my stuff. here is $20000! also, here's a box filled with dv and 8mm film reels of their famed movies that they never ever said. would you like a pancake?"
"the phasehead firecamp is so good! vaydan cowboy is good song. geometry is also pretty good, diving chorus and dawn station are my favorite songs. i like SKAM, that's their best album. you should totally listen to black moth super rainbow."
i tried showing it to one friend who listens to dubstep for all his life and he said it sounded like crap so i haven't tried since.
