I was about to start a topic on this before noticing this one. I know this is a good thing since it helps get boc out too more people but I can't help but share Isawdrones initial response. When I saw this on myspace (My niece was grabbing a picture of one of her friends for me to draw, I don't have a myspace and harness a hatred for the site.) I felt a sickess. For some reason having BOC advertised on myspace makes me feel like a zealous christian would if someone was breaking a cross in front of them.

Jesus. Some people really need to get out more if something this innocuous is making them feel sick. Are folks still under the illusion that all an artist has to do is record something and it'll somehow provide a living for them? A certain amount of advertising is pretty much essential for a non-gigging band (such as BoC) to get their music known to the point that they can continue to do it. Myspace is harmless. There's more than a few folks on here who find it a valuable lifeline in getting their work to an audience. Please find something worthwhile to direct your hatred towards.

I think the problem a lot of folk have with MySpace is that it's owned by News International and part of a big multi-national.

True, but it's also allowed a lot of folk to get their music heard. Surely anything that allows music to get out there and like-minded people to communicate is a good thing?

I think its just the shock of seeing a BoC ad sponsored by a toothpaste company pop up on a webpage viewed probally almost a million times a day that left me unsettled. I dont hate myspace, but it just seemed very unlike BoC for them to put an advert up on this type of venue.
When the music you live for is being posted on a website for thousands too see, it just kind of makes your relationship with the music feel less sacred for a minute, knowing that everyone is looking at what your looking at.
I didnt let the video change my opinion of the band and I didnt let the Ad either. But knowing that these decisions are more money driven just kind of makes you sigh, but then you move on.
Ive found a few bands on myspace, nothing special though. If someone found the music of their soul through the web community that is myspace then wonderfull. But the inital shock of an advertisement leaves you in uncomfortable thought.
This ad was good for BoC, it probally did expose people to something they might really get into.
But most of the first generation fans like us just saw "our" music let out of its shell and out to the masses.
Its like letting go of your kid to go off to college, you know its a good thing but you feel uncomfortable that he/she is starting another stage of life and that things will be a little different.
BoC is our child, and were just watching them take their steps into adulthood, we are happy but a little unsettled that things will be different.

I don't like commercials but BoC have to make a living! It's stupid to think that they survive in real life just by selling their records. Do you really think BoC gives an iota of what you think about that? Get a life man.
