Advices for consuming shrooms

Post by Radiobuzz »

Hello community, exactly one week from now I will be consuming some shrooms for the first time in my life. We are going to the country with a couple of close friends for the weekend so we thought it was a perfect opportunity. I lack experience as do my friends, so I thought this was the perfect place to ask for any advice you may have for this first experience. A guy told me that we should get orange juice in case we're having a bad trip, is this true?

Set and Setting is the golden rule with psychedelics, if you're in a good frame of mind, confident and thinking positively whilst in a comfortable and assuring environment you should have a blast. Of course the set and setting rule doesn't equal a definite good time, but it greatly increases your chances of having a good trip.

Have fun! Shrooms are great.

What I know, and this applies to pretty much any of the psychedelics, you want to be doing positive, enjoyable things in enjoyable places and your trip will be positive in turn (such has been said many, many times). I'd suggest starting off with a low dose for the first time and work yourself up. The easiest way to make a trip go bad is to take more than your tolerance can handle.

Now, if you're having a bad trip, get whatever you like. Orange juice is not some magical cure for the psychological condition you'll be in during a bad trip. If you are to consume something, opt for whatever makes you happy the most.

There's this idea regarding the citric acid breaking down the psilocybin, but since the mechanism of action is confusing and it isn't always consistent, ultimately it's probably a placebo effect. Which is exactly what you need, but you don't need juice for it. You have to train your mind to calm itself and that's pretty much the only way you'll pull yourself out of those bad trips.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

Make sure there is 1 person who stays sober, it will give you a calm eeling that there is always somebody around with good judgement. I've heard that Vitamin C and sugar are good for when you are having a bad trip, had lots of sugar once when I kinda had a bad trip and it helped me, probably placebo effect though.

And if you are on the verge of losing it, which will not happen if you are in the right state of mind, just remember that everything you see/do is because of the drug that you just took, and that it will blow over in a few hours.

Make your mushies in to a tea. If you do it properly, you should end up with all of the desired effects, minus the distinctive nausea that can be quite bothersome for some. Grind or chop them and steep them in hot water (not too hot, or you'll break down the psilocybin!) for a while with ginger and some vitamin C capsules for flavor. This has always been the best method of ingestion for me and my friends; it tastes way better than the raw shrooms and alleviates the dreaded "mush tummy" that can really put a damper on your fun and/or insight.

Also, everything everybody above said.

Thanks a lot guys! Great advices, and I will definitely check the tea thing.

EDIT: Sorry, I have a specific question too: how much will the trip can last with just one dose? I ask this because I'm a little concerned about cooking dinner and making a bonfire; as I said we will be in the country with no electricity so I really want those two things to be taken care of before dark.

Wise words in this thread, especially above.
And like somebody else mentioned don't take a mahoosive dose straight away. I made this mistake on my first trip, big mistake and a very long story. Have a nice munch and enojoy yourself.

Depends on what you mean by "dose," but for an average mushroom trip free up at least 8 hours to let the drug wear off and give yourself some time to recoup.

The really great thing about shrooms is the no comedown, unlike acid which can be pretty sketchy, shrooms can allow you to continue on as if you hadn't taken anything that day. Really want some Shrooms now haha

Set aside a whole day. Make sure it's in a place where you are safe and naturally comfortable. Have one sober sitter that you can trust (as in, he won't fuck with you or take advantage of your altered state for the luls). Make sure that you won't have any reason to go anywhere and everything you could need is at the place you are tripping at. Clean the place up too if it's disorganized and messy. Don't bother if your mental state is depressed, stressed or just not positive.

Thanks again for all the advices guys. I was thinking also listening to MHTRTC while on it, do you think it's a good idea? (I'm afraid Geogaddi would rape my mind) Also, as it turns out, I misunderstood it and it's not this weekend I'm going to the country but the one after this, so there's more than a week still.

If you listen to Boc, no matter which album, you will probably feel that you are in a safe place. They will fit in perfectly the world that you will be in. But if your friends aren't familiar with Boc you should probably go with MHTRTC or preferably TCH.

Also, don't fight your thoughts even if they can be heavy. Just explore.

Ok guys, I've just returned from the country after my first experience. First I wanted to thank you for the advices, they've certainly helped.

As portiss suggested, I made tea with the Golden Teachers. One of my friends decided to stay sober, it was the first time any of us would try an hallucinogen (in fact the only drug I've tried is weed which is not my favourite at all) so we weren't quite sure what to expect. A while after drinking it I started laughing really hard, as if I was high. After a while my vision started to shift slowly and I was seeing a faint trail after moving objects. At this point I went outside, there's no electricity in the country so it was pitch dark. A saw some sort of faint net going from behind the ranch up to the sky. I stop to look at the sky and it felt like a hologram, as if I could differenciate the height between the clouds and the rest of the sky. I went back outside and I realise I saw the hair of one of my friends, who is a brunette, purple with stripes of green. I start getting really excited at this point.

Everytime I blinked, I could see some sort of geometrical figures surrounded by very bright colors. Eventually I could see this clearly on top of everything. It was as if I had a fabric or a net between my eyes and the rest of the world, and in this net I could see figures, something like moving mandalas mixed with fractals mixed with a kaleidoscope. I went outside and everywhere I looked I saw all these colors and moving figures, while at the same time I saw branches from far away trees as geometrical, and also the ground I was standing had like two giants hexagons. I was very conscious during the whole trip, and by this time I was pretty much acting like a little kid, I felt like I was rediscovering the world. I went inside to talk to my friends, they were not seeing the same thing I was seeing and I just couldn't believe it, I started to describe it to them because I wanted them to see how beautiful everything was.

It was more than just visuals, I felt like I was watching some sort of cosmic fabric of which we are all made of, as if I was being permitted to see the inner engines of life. The visuals gave me some sort of spiritual relief, although I'm not at all spiritual and I avoid everything "new age" like the plague, but this is pretty much what I was feeling and I just wanted to share it with my friends.

I have no idea how long it last, I completely lost track of time, but I would say the whole thing lasted 4 hours and the more strong part maybe lasted one or one and a half.

Anyway, it has been beyond incredible and I can't wait to try it again. I think it was an incredible first trip, I don't know how I could ever top the sheer beauty I saw.

That sums up most trips I've had very nicely. Except I've never tried to describe it with words, that's pretty close.

Glad to know you had a great time OP. I'm always happy to see psychedelics work out well for people since they really worked out well for myself. Click my signature for some good follow up reading on the topic.
