Beginner at making tunes

Post by DaveJ »

Hey lads, first time posting here but been reading up here for ages. Very impressed by yer tunes lads! Just wondering if ye have any tips for creating similar tunes to BoC using Reason? I was looking over at reasonstation.net to see how people create songs in Reason and it's been really helpful, I want to have a go at making a BoC-esque downtempo/trip-hop tune, would anybody here have any tips or even any rps files (if ye use reason) so that i could have a look at what machines ye use in reason and how to begin making my own? thanks alot guys, great music here by ye too!

I love this forum. So much talent. I can spend hours listening to you're guy's Soundclouds. 747Music - Red Winged Blackbird is my new fave.

Thank you!! That made my day. And yes, this forum is awesome for having a multitude of gifted artists. I'm so glad to be a part of this place.

You could ask Lost Integrity on Soundcloud. I know he uses Reason and has quite a BoC vibe in many of his tracks.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

currently working on an lp that I keep getting distracted from cuz it's summer... but I recently found a tape deck so I'm going to master the whole thing to tape and hopefully have enough tapes to make some copies. I'm pumped.

Can anybody help with Reason please

Post by DaveJ »

Hello again lads, just wondering if ye know of anywhere to find any good .rns or .rps files for reason please?

been looking on reasonstation and it's really good, but it's hard to find songs in the style i'm looking to learn. When i said like BoC, I didn't mean exactly, just that kind of style. Any help is really appreciated guys and I'm sorry if this is off topic too. Would any of you guys have any .rps files I could look at to see how it's done to get me started?

Cheers guys :)

You just have to mess around with it for a while until you can figure out how to make it work for you. I think that's about the best advice you'll get from anyone around these parts...

man, this so much. I barely use tutorials now because if I don't find out how to do it myself, I'll never remember.

yeah generally I recommend experimenting because there is no simple method to get that style. Though vibrato if done right and basically anything that alters pitch slightly will definitely help get that kind of sound. But really experimenting with it and discovering your own ways to achieve that sound is my advice, because at the end of the day you'll have accomplished your own method and sound.

I always end up deconstructing a full song into something short percussion-less.
