Vocals question from ATP 2001 untitled track.

I dunno, it's like whenever you hear a voice in a BoC track it's a recording of a voice (well, technically that's always true, but you know what I mean, it's snippets of something pulled in off a tape or a broadcast). If you hear a non-electronic instrument it's degraded and distorted, an echo of a performance. The human touch is always there in their work but it's always found through some kind of a broken mirror, it's never just there, laid on top. That was one of the things that I only realised later got me about the Solange tracks, why the vocal was so incongruous. It just didn't fit with what BoC IS.

I think the point I was trying to make was that it is the exception not the rule. If i recall correctly the samples on IABPOITC were from one or more documentaries on the Branch Davidians.

I just recently found the cleaner version of ATP Track 7 (I got really excited about it) and decided to clean it up and mix it with the overly bassy/distorted track I've had kicking around for a long time. The resulting mix seems to have the best of both worlds now, although you can hear a few parts where it phases a lot (nothing can completely fix this unfortunately).

Here's the link. For anyone technical-minded wondering what was touched up, here's the rundown:

-Two of the known recorded tracks overlayed (as good as possible)
-Tighter, Center-Focused Bass Frequencies
-25% More Stereo Width (Live setting really lends itself to this)
-Slight Phase Rectifier
-EQ'ing
-Slightly More Compressed

I found after mixing it I could hear the vocoder voice a lot better and could hear the creepy female vocals near the end a lot better also. Let me know if you like it...I personally hate listening to amazing tracks with unfortunate live EQ problems. I also decided to put this up because I couldn't download the other two contributors' remastered tracks anymore (broken link?). Hopefully this is a bit more clear!

at 0:35 into 0:36 theres a kid voice saying 'louder'
do you hear that? its kinda obvious cos right after that vocal sample the second bass drum comes in and the song gets louder

anyway... your times are off when that vocal sample comes in and actually it starts at 5:22 and sounds to me like it's saying 'too mental' or 'it's a mentos' 'it's a rainbow'

one thing you'v got to keep in mind is, that when you listen to bocs stuff sometimes the way they cut up their vocal samples it's made just to blend in with the song.

another thing, that vocoder vox sounds like it's saying 'art if it's art' haha this song is wicked

I was listening to isolatedmix 34 by Anders Ilar and near the end of this fabulous mix I hear a song that reminds me of unknown track @ ATP which is discussed in this thread.

The song in this mix by Anders Ilar is Severed Heads - in her hair... guard dog on patrol, released in 1982.

Is it just me or do these two tracks sounds similar in some way or another? At the very least I do get a very boccy feel from that Severed Heads track. Something about that drum pattern, the eerie bassline and the general mood. Also a bit telephasic workshop like...

What do you all think?

i completely agree with you, this song completely reaks of boards of canada.

i also agree with the two boards of canada songs you used to describe this track. it sounds almost like the unknown ATP track was mixed together with Telephasic Workshop.

*Really* good find. Wow. I can't believe that's from 1982.

The Telephasic Workshop similarities are pretty striking. That short syllable of speech repeated almost like percussion. The way the bass drum sounds repeat and blow straight through the beat. And then the synths in the BoC track are pretty close to the tones in the Severed Heads track.

A case of two people coming to the same place from different directions but... wow.
