That's right. They are there... doing nothing but collecting dust...

I think they would benefit someone else a lot better than they would me. I just want to cut down on my material possessions.

Also Goiter - just out of curiosity - what made you decide to sell? Just find that you're only listening to the digital copies? Are you over music? Moving entirely to vinyl?

I am as into music as I've ever been; if not more so. It is the physical object that encapsulates the music that I find myself moving away from. Having a massive lossless music collection instantly accessible and immaculately organized is a true joy to me, and something that I have worked hard to achieve. I'd never willingly go back to interfacing with a clumsy physical medium again if I don't have to.
Btw, did you get your SoTL CD in the mail? Do you think it sounds much different/better?

Sell 'em on eBay because if you do it correctly it'll be worth the effort! The key is to put up as many as you can! If you can't put up all your sales at once, pair the CDs you sell by artist similarity or complete discography. Sell each CD on it's own, not as a lot. I have sold around 400 CDs so far from my electronic collection and made close to $4,000 US total in the past 4 months.

So like, I have a sizable NIN collection. What you're saying is put them all up at once but sell each item individually?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying! It's the best way to do it from a seller's perspective. Also, start the bidding low; lower than Amazon or Discogs and then you'll attract more attention. In spite of this your items are likely to sell for more than they would've on the aforementioned sites because people get competative in the final minutes and want to have everything with a combined shipping rate.

I find it's best to include BIN prices only for really valuable items like, say, the Autechre Steel Quaristice edition or something of that ilk. I had a BIY price of $99 for that one and it was scooped up within hours. Otherwise I'd advise against it as it adds an additional seller fee just to include the option; and it's in your best interest to minimize seller fees!
Free shipping would attract people certainly but be careful not to get screwed over, especially if you are selling lots of CDs with little value attached to them. My recommendation is: if you're shipping CDs within the US set the shipping price to $3.00; it costs that much to ship 1 CD within the US with tracking. Go to your local post office and see how much it is to ship a single CD to a few international locations and use an average figure as your international shipping amount. Include a note in your item description about combined shipping and needing to calculate it after the auctions are over (so you can see who's bought what). Remember to include the costs of all materials in your shipping (bubble mailer, etc).
Starting price really depends on the CD in question. I generally start bidding much lower than I want them to sell for ultimately. It can be disconcerting at first but in my experience it pays off; accruing far more bids than it would otherwise and giving potential bidders more incentive to bid on an ostensibly popular item! Let the sales go for the default seven days as it costs nothing to do that, but be sure that you have enough time to put up as many sales as you can as close together as you can! Also, set them up so they end sometime in the afternoon (not at 2 AM when no one is awake in North America to sniper-bid).

Are you a new seller as of this year? Have you sold anything before on eBay with the account you're using? I only ask because you will have a 'category limit' imposed for at least 90s which begins after you start your very first sale. A 'category limit' means that within a single category (in this case CDs) you can only sell up to 30 items... If this is the case what I'd recommend doing is selling some other stuff on eBay first and wait 90 days; then sell your CDs en masse; it is important to sell a CD collection all together to attract as many bidders as possible!

This will be my first time selling. My dad actually had done this before and we're planning on working together on this. He'll be specializing in antiques whereas I will be specializing in media.

Yes sir it arrived. Thanks so much. TBH - I know Nitrous Oxide the LEAST well of Stars of the Lid releases so I'd have to do a side by side. I bought it more because I am turning into a completist with them than because I was worried about the old one being bad.

Managed to snag a copy of Manuevering the Nocturnal Hum this week - pretty excited for that one to arrive.

I am pretty ambivalent about the physical thing. On the one hand I admit logically that my CDs (except in my car) pretty much just sit there. 99.9% of my listening happens over mp3 - regardless of my flac archive or my physical collections. IDK. I just like it I guess.

I still have my vinyl collection to sell off. Once I figure out the best way to digitally archive them then I'll part with them. 'Maneuvering The Nocturnal Hum' and 'The Kahanek Incident' are among them. I would still like to pick up the 7" with 'Julie Delphi' on it. I am also missing a bunch of remixes that Adam Wiltzie/SoTL have done.
