I was comparing your "this is why we can't have nice things" argument, not whether or not your life depends on it or anything, don't be a dick.Rodheh wrote:Oh yeah. Well, see I obviously can relate to your mother Julian. We're pretty much exactly the same here.
I mean, your mother must have a debilitating medical condition right? This condition can also be treated effectively and safely only by these super sized drinks, right? But then someone wanted one of these drinks just because it tastes good and they like it, and then they accidentally got fat because they didn't know how to limit their drinks properly. Now they're banned and your mother's only alternative are drinks that only half relieve her condition and on top of that cause side effects. If she seeks treatment from shamans that can still produce this super sized drinks, she gets chastised by her family and friends and has legal reparations! I'm exactly the same way as her man!
Oh, wait...except this isn't about super sized drinks. This is about something that is a real, serious issue to many of us in this country.
Whatever, I'll shut up now.

You don't have to shut up. The "this is why we can't have nice things" image was inserted at the last second to relieve tension from what was a somewhat heavy rant. If my second comment came off as a dick comment, I'm sorry and I didn't mean it like that. My point is just that it seemed kind of rude that you contrasted my statement about drugs with something your mom said about super sized drinks. Maybe that is a legitimate issue to your mother and I don't want to belittle her. Just initially seemed a bit absurd in context of the thread, that's all.Julian Candy wrote:I was comparing your "this is why we can't have nice things" argument, not whether or not your life depends on it or anything, don't be a dick.Rodheh wrote:Oh yeah. Okay...now...wait for fog machine.
No offence to you pianoforte, but when you post a drug-related story portraying it in a negative way - no matter how fictitious- on a forum of like-minded people with a common interest in left-field music that is often speculated to be drug-influenced (although of course it doesn't have to be), this is exactly the kind of reaction I was expecting.
I got it from reddit actually. Not that it matters, image macro pictures are ubiquitous on the internet anyways. Also, you forgot to bitch about the cat picture.Kamas009 wrote:Easy there, this isn't 4chan.Vexille wrote:Life's too sweet to get upset over stupid shit like this and then wasting my time being pissy and writing an essay about it.
Get out of here with that shit.
And plus, the whole news article is indeed a propaganda push on drugs. Rod deserves every right to post his opinion on this matter, and responding with such childish dribble is clearly a pitiful picture of what Twoism has stooped too.
Oh there's also http://www.twoism.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9487 you probably want to go 4chan police too. Since it looks like something from that website.
You seem to be putting a lot of bans on yourself for the wrong reasons. You made the masturbation thread in which you mentioned you won't be having a girlfriend until after 18, and now this thread.
For starters I have to say that maybe you shouldn't take drugs, maybe you should masturbate less and maybe you'll find that you don't want a girlfriend until you are 18 or over. But I think it's the reasoning behind it that leads me to sympathise with you. You shouldn't not take drugs because of news stories like that (unless of course you suffer from anxiety and it might affect your experience with them anyway). You should avoid them if you have researched them properly, outside of propaganda, looked at the effects and the risks involved and then decide if it is for you. If not, then don't take them. But avoid them on your own terms after having made an informed decision on the matter, not being influenced by biased pressures and scare-mongering.
For the masturbation, there are positives and negatives with it. One negative is that some people who masturbate a lot and who then go into a relationship find it harder to achieve orgasm because the repetitive technique of their own style leads to a pavlovian effect where they only come when being stimulated in a very specific way. They may also find that the female feels looser than when they are masturbating. On the other hand, banning something which is natural outright is as sexually obssessed as doing it far too much. Same as eating disorders with people who eat too much or too little. It's about finding that natural balance in line with your own drive.
As for the no girlfriend before 18 that also seems very restrictive. It seems like your putting all these barriers on yourself rather than actually weighing up everything and considering what feels right to you. As long as you aren't hurting yourself or anybody else, if you are making these decisions based purely on fear or because of outside pressures then they aren't really the best decisions.
Sorry to go into such detail but I think it's important for you to look at things from a clear perspective. You might come to the same conclusions but at least you'll know that they are your own decisions based on logic rather than fear.

This pretty much sums up the whole war on (soft) drugs.Cupz wrote:Legislating aspirin because one douche-bag took 40 pills.
I don't do psychedelics any more. Extensive use brought me to the realization that I don't need them any more. That said, these drugs took a miserable and closed-minded person and turned him in to the guy I'm proud to be today. They allowed me to radically change my world view to a more positive and healthy one, and brought me to a much deeper understanding of myself. Without them my life would be very different than it is today, most likely for the worse.
So when I see propaganda and scare-stories like this, it really gets me a little worked up inside. It's not to say that there aren't negative aspects of drug use (there are many,) but rather the media would have you believe that there's nothing to be gained from safe and regulated use.
If you don't want to do drugs, fine. But don't believe everything you hear, kids - more often than not They're lying to you.

i'd like to apologize for this thread. i still wouldn't be very enthusiastic about doing mushrooms myself, but i have grown as a person and i understand that this was negative propaganda. i'm sorry for inflicting my immature opinions on everyone here. if someone would like to wipe this thread from the face of the earth, go to it. but if it remains, i'll accept the fact that it's a monument to the fact that my opinions and information on various topics change on a regular basis and i really don't know very much.

I don't agree fully with that.fujee wrote:Psychedelics respect you if you respect them.
Psychedelics can sometimes throw a spanner in to the works, and when they do no amount of preparation seems to stop it. Terrence McKenna stopped using shrooms altogether in later life because of a particularly gruesome and intense trip. He said he was frightened by the idea. And this is the guy who loved them so much that he theorized that they were responsible for a part of early human evolution! I am sure he also always had in mind the famous 'set and setting' idea.
You are right in that if you prepare yourself you lessen the risks and most people don't seem to have any longstanding issues (and many end up changing for the better), but there are some times where you think you will have done everything you can and you still get a nasty kick in the teeth.
That is what can happen when you start drastically altering the way your mind works for a few hours. You don't even need to be particularly predisposed to mental illness, sometimes it is just a very unlucky combination of psychological and physical factors. Those are the risks unfortunately.
EDIT: This isn't pertaining so much to the article really. Just a response to your statement fujee.
EDIT2: Just realised this is a thread from 2012...
I'm happy he's alive. It's a miracle. God is great, He had mercy on the boy's tormented soul
Also, I am pro-gunsforeveryone. I mean in America people are 1. stupid 2. have a shitload of guns. And only a few tragedies a year. Believe me, if you want to commit a crime USING A GUN, you can get hold of a gun with or without laws forbidding them. Otherwise guns just equate the survival chances of the physically weak (women, people with glasses, people who are not part of the law enforcement, people who can't afford a bodyguard etc.) with those who would otherwise bully them. Feminists should fight for the 2nd amendment.
Yeah, I don't know how you can have a car (a two ton piece of metal with a powerful engine with which you can mow down whole fields of women, children and babies if you want to) and not be allowed to have a gun. FFS.
I'm sorry for my rant.

It's like when you're walking down an alley at night, and some tweaker jumps out from behind a dumpster and runs you over with a 2-ton car.
Or a careless driver forgets to lock his door and accidentally runs himself over.
Or some disturbed kid takes his mum's station wagon (not safely locked in the garage) into his classroom and runs over every kid he finds.
(Guns are easy to conceal and can be deadly at a distance or in close quarters with little warning. Which is why even though car accidents happen, it's a totally different thing).

Cars are used to transport people, that is their sole and primary purpose, any suffering caused by them is nearly always due to the person and not the function of the car. Whereas a guns sole and only purpose is to hurt and kill people and animals, you can't get away from that fact.

Well the more I think about it, the more I think the guns aren't neccesarely bad. I mean its horrible in the wrong hands, but so is any powertool in any DYI store. I have a feeling that a whole less minor roberies will happen, because who knows, the other guy might have a gun too. Here in the Netherlands, when someone holds a gun, they know they are the only person with one in a 20 mile radius, excluding cops and they are usually the wrong people. If everybody has one, it loses that power, and people could protect eachother. Then again, people are relentlessly dangeriously stupid, with or without a gun and actually shouldn't own anything at all.

I have been in an altercation with a driver, he got out of his Big Car to beat me up but was too stupid to engage the handbrake. The car started rolling backwards and squished some unfortunate soul between it and the next carMrMessiah wrote:Or a careless driver forgets to lock his door and accidentally runs himself over.
