For many-a-year I was into metal (15 years or so). To be fair the last 5 years I have lost almost all interest in it, though I still listen I don't go discovering, if you get my drift.
My favorite band was, and always will be Slayer. The first time I heard them was Seasons in the Abyss via a friends TDK cassette. Hahah I remember it very well because I was expecting a racket and a wall of noise! Instead I just got this awesome heavy as fuck groove, and million miles-per-hour drums, and Arayas voice. Ah I always have really dug Arayas vocals. Seasons/South of Heaven/Reign in Blood all 10/10 classics for me.
Slayer was about as heavy as I would go, maybe some Obituary, but after that for me it crosses the border into cartoon land. IMO.

Hi Guido,
Like you I really love the first 5 Sabbath albums too. Years ago Master of Reality I wasn't so keen on but nowadays I reckon that's the best, I think the production is a bit muddy but I guess that adds to the 'Doom'
Another album not mentioned so far and I reckon is worth a listen is Cleansing by Prong.

Just listened to South of Heaven. Holy shit is all I have to say, what an album.

Also Slayer are the most uncompromising band I have ever seen, and I guess in the close minded circles of Metal they are only the better off for it. Virtually every metal fan love them because they never explored too far from their comfort zone, in any other genre they would be called out for that but in the Metal world they are virtually universally adored because of it.
All I know is this is fucking sweet.

Tom Araya is a cool guy too, always seems really friendly and willing to discuss their music. Lombardo is an absolute beast on the drums, perhaps the best metal drummer out there, definitely in the Thrash genre anway.

Protest the Hero, anyone? A newer and less dark metalcore-esque band but their sound is very, very original, extremely progressive, and they're lyrics and vocal soundscape is amazing. For me, anyways.
I recommend the album 'Kezia'.

Anyways. I'm also more of a Between the Buried and Me mathmetal and/or sounds like... Opeth.

QFT. Very versatile too. Didn't he play with Fantomas for a while?fujee wrote:Lombardo is an absolute beast on the drums.
Incidentally, check out the short piece in The Quietus from a few weeks ago.
