It might have been said before, but this is the place to say it:
You know how you check messages on the places you hang out? Like on Twitter or FB or maybe your voice mail or email or whatever?
And you know how do that kind of a lot? And that often enough there's nothing there?
I had the thought that Twoism is exactly the opposite of that to BoC. They have a giant crowd gathered just outside the door. If they wanted, they wouldn't ever run out of messages -- to themselves, about themselves, direct or indirect.
Could you imagine being BoC, reading this stuff? Not that it's bad stuff -- it isn't, and that's not my point at all. But can you imagine having such a dedicated and stable-in-number group of people for month after month, year after year, approaching a full generation simply in love with what you're doing with music? Just kind of standing around, more or less patiently, while you slowly develop your stuff?
I can't imagine it at all. It's incredible. This crowd of dedicated people who get it about BoC is of a part with the work. We are an effect of its cause, and I suspect our existence is as historically remarkable as the work that drew us.
Maybe I have limited experience, but I don't think I've seen anything like it in music. Closest thing I can think of is from the 19th century. The author Mark Twain had fans who came by foot and horse to his porch every day and he'd read new pages to them. That's remarkable enough. Now compare that to Twoism: huge crowd...no pages.
Anyway. BoC are a big deal. To me, to you...and objectively so as well.
Obviously, I want to hear the new work. I'm saying it's also a rare privilege to be able to wait for new work. Not everybody will have that chance.

Haha, I bet it's borderline creepy for them, considering that they're really just two Scottish blokes. I mean, these guys don't have that rock star mentality - They don't do tours or big interviews or anything of the like. They're just two family men with a couple albums out that happen to have multiple websites dedicated to watching their every move with wide-eyed anticipation.
That would skeeve me out a bit.

I've come to a conclusion. I don't think I want another album from BOC. MAYBE they'll pull out the same creativity with new sounds like how they started in the first place, but it may be up the same alley as their previous works. Frankly, I don't think they CAN do anything new, their discography is perfect, already. I don't want the whole thing to be diluted in mediocrity. Maybe that's what BOC thinks, as well.
Really, though, seriously - I hope I'm wrong.
I'm a man that does not strive for a certain genre, in his music. Ugliness among beauty. Or is the other way, around? Maybe just all ugly.
I just don't think they can end on Trans Canada Highway, man. That's kind of a low note.
If they come back and pull off an album that's old-BoC-tier in quality, then they could stop making anything forever and I wouldn't even care. There's just been something that has bothered me for a while though about the idea of their last release being a half-assed one (not saying that TCH is necessarily that half-assed, just in comparison to any other BoC release comprised of all new tracks and no remixes).
Call me a weenie, but I really am hoping for another Campfire Headphase-like album. I'll admit, it was kind of half-assed. I mean, they put a lot into it, and it's by far my favorite album by them, but there was a little more they could have done. Anyways, I'm not much for darker ambient music, so I'm hoping for a nice, light, happy record.

I dunno it's funny people have this opinion of Campfire Headphase, because sonically it's probably the most packed album. Also the most produced.
Imo, some of the best BoC has been the most simplistic and abstract. Twoism as a release pretty much sums up their brilliant simplicity whilst also maintaining that textured claustrophobia. I love Twoism so much.

You know, I take back what I said about it being half-assed, I was thinking about it last night, and it probably is their most well-produced album. And yes, I agree with on Twoism, Oirectine is a great example of their amazing ability to simplify things.
