Yes, some of the bands I mentioned in the list had split up vowing to high-hell never reform... Coroner... Sword... Even Accept...Helios wrote:Yes, but do they completely fall off of the radar, literally not saying anything as if they don't even exist?Magrathea wrote:Anyone whining about 6 years clearly isn't a fan of: Testament, Loco Locass, Accept, Coroner, Sword, Cipher System etc. etc. I mean, the range here is from 5 years to 20+ years between one album and the next.
It seems that when you are THAT pointedly anchoring your life on a single release, it's time to defocus a bit, you know, go out, throw a frisbee, take pictures, just listen to the wind.
If it comes, it comes, if not, oh well, life isn't BOC-centric

There have been various tidbits of small things they released onto the net in the course of the last years. Even though it might seem neglible to you, it still is a form of communiction indicating they haven't vanished in thin air.
And no I'm not yet again going to give you some specific examples. Why not? Because it has been done multiple times already and it would just mean you haven't been paying attention to the various boc related sites on the net.
They still exist. There will be new stuff. Patience is a virtue.
You don't seem to post on watmmer these days, is there some sort of exodus from that part of the world? Joyrex seems to be a lone sentry, left alone to patch the peices together. Poor fellow. I've always thought he does as best as he could with what he has to work with. A sterling job.
As a fisherman I have endless amounts of patience, though I am not the most virtuous of individuals. So after a while things get up my nose, maybe I should rephrase that, after a while I get fucking annoyed with bullshit. There I cut to the chase.
I know some people, especially on twoism, seem to think saying anything bad about BoC will conclude in some dreadful karma, or a lightning bolt hitting them etc etc. Some of us know the score, and I know how things run. I live life.
Anyway my point was being the gay black box. Was that WARPS idea, just to stem the tide? Things were getting heated at that point due to past bullshit getting posted and getting hopes up? Is there anything happening at all? Because when I start reading posts where people like yourself are telling me to have patience because its a virtue, mmm that sort of rubs me up the wrong way.
Don't patronise me mate.
ps I am sure you loved-up twoism mates will come to your aid and proclaim me as a peasant. And never guess what???? That's right you guessed correct.

No see I don't blame you for being mad for the amount of time it's been.. that's different from other people patronizing anyone who is positive. I think it only makes sense to get pissed and yeah the black box thing bothers me a lot too... because it's been there for years lol.

Oooh, the thinly veiled passive aggressive threat in that last paragraph.
I'd better not reply then...

I just still never got what the big deal was about them being pretty quiet. There's so much more to life (and, especially, this forum! here's looking at all the great artists that frequent this forum) that, in the end, BoC's activity (or lack thereof) really isn't that big of a damn deal.
If anything, it makes the stuff they do have and anything they do decide to say/release that much sweeter.
And, as others have said, several other, more popular bands and artists have gone on longer with fewer words.
Both sides, with your "shut ups" and your "sucka-da-dicks"es..
Relax

Personally I think the best we can do is leave warphead's challenge well alone and not get into another round of providing proof to whether new material is coming. We know the answer to this already.
I'm looking forward to the release as much as anyone, and also to reading the interviews that will come along with it. Its thrilling to me to think that they are still making music, my memories of their albums are so strongly connected with different parts of my life, and to hear the new one as a 40+ year old makes me feel incredibly lucky.
And if they do ever play live again, I hope to be stood listening in awe with the likes of Fredd-E and some of our more positive twoism boarders.

i think the problem is, a lot of people simply dont have a life to enjoy, and they need this album as a reason to live!! lol
you are right though, looks at a band like tool. they take just as long to release every album, and you very rarely hear any of the members talk about the band. yet boc seem to get chastised for not giving the fans much feedback.
i said this before and will say it again. boards of canada really dont owe us anything. if they decided to never release music again, we would have to live with that, and still respect them. but luckily. they are still releasing music, you just have to exercise some patience.
here is an honest question, to the people on this forum who are in such a hurry for a new record. what will you do if you end up not liking the record? then what will you spend all your time waiting for?

We give them our cash! they depend on us for their loyal support, unless they really do live in the wilderness where money is obsolete.boards of canada really dont owe us anything
Sorry but I don't like the idea of boc just doing their own thing and not sparing a thought for the fans- some have devoted their lives to them!

You are wrong, you are shelling out dollars to acquire their music, no one forces you to buy it, you buy a commodity.cpt.falcon wrote:We give them our cash! they depend on us for their loyal support, unless they really do live in the wilderness where money is obsolete.boards of canada really dont owe us anything

Does Nike owe you because you bought a fancy pair of shoes?
An artist offers something, then someone either buys it or not, the artist is completely independent, in that rightful way, they owe you absolutely nothing, not even consideration.
They might APPRECIATE it, but it is some giving back on their own free will.
So neither BOC, nor NIKE, or anyone owe you nothing because you bought something. Even warranties and insurances, they don't OWE you anything, they are performing the services for which you paid, period.

Stick with me on this one, it's slightly more far-fetched.
As an industry grows and more competitors enter the market, those competitors have to offer better services along with a better product to edge out the other, growing competition. It gets to a point where the customer starts to expect these additional services. Soon enough, they stop being additional and become a part of the product.
Take tipping, for instance. Tipping (especially in other cultures, but let's talk about the West for now) used to be a pretty optional thing. If someone provided you great service, then you tip them a little extra. It's become so socially standard now, that unless the waiter was terrible, you are expected to tip.
Side note - please tip your waiter/waitress, even for moderate service. Their wages are cut to below minimum wage (at least in the states) because their employer can say "they'll earn tips, so I don't have to pay them as much." Not everyone knows that.
Moving on. This is applicable to the music industry. Especially a few decades ago (at least from what I can gather), there was no "hanging on an artist's every update". If it came, it came. Not too often would you receive a thank-you, any appreciation, etc. But, due to the music industry's growth, a change has taken place. The additional service of more updates, more appreciation, more shoutouts is becoming more and more expected of artists.

That's a silly way to go about purchasing one's commodities, and those people should feel silly.fans should at least be acknowledged- especially a dedicated fanbase that essentially will buy new boc material whether it is good or bad, simply because it is new material.
