What would you guys make of someone (me) using one of the names of BoC's songs for a website - let me explain the website I have in mind.
Not a big business money making site, not a community site (I might at some point but it wont be BoC related). But it was purely for art / electronic music, such as my art work is very weird, almost a BoC style... I'm into that sort of stuff...
So pretty much it being a name for my own portfolio site and possibly some other site in the future maybe a website to share me and my friends art / music. nothing commercial.
Would you guys think it would be lame to use a boards of canada song name for this? I would have a note on the site saying - this is not BoC related so nothing gets stirred up as another hoax site etc...
I just want your views to see what you all think. Thanks

If it's a BoC influenced site.. why not a BoC influenced name? Not something directly from them, but something along the same lines..1969 wrote:But it wouldnt be a BoC fansite, more of a... BoC influenced website.
Hell, it probably doesn't matter as its the content that will define the site, not the name itself.
thats a v good point, I have a list of site names which are the style im looking for and some do have a meaning to them. But I'm set on this name of a boc song. I'll try come up with a name myself though, as what u said sounds logical since its a BoC influenced site...
yeh thats what I was thinking at first but now im wondering... most of the people that visit the site wont have even heard of BoC (although ill try direct them to BoC since BoC are a big influence on me)Hell, it probably doesn't matter as its the content that will define the site, not the name itself.
I did kind of the same thing when I needed in my second year of filmmaking a direction / guideline for my work.
Not only it's name but the track itself just fits perfectly with the style and feeling I want my non commercial-work to be, so I just took the name of that boards of canada track and am using it since then for my site/work.

Just mess around with names in your mind, if you cant get one, then use a BoC song title. I think BoC puts alot of time into their song title,
they really intertwine track names and the music.
The name makes the visuals, and the sound creates the emotion for those visuals.
Everything they do just has to be quality, thats why theyre so rad.
I think you could create a name that you really liked if you just thought on it for awhile.
It would just be that much better because it would be personal.

Well obviously Redpoint is, at least, in part a BoC reference but also has a host of personal connotations for us. The BoC thing is almost a secondary influence. We wrote a videogame before doing the music. Most names and titles are taken from other sources (cinema, literature, the world around us). So long as it has personal resonance and *feels* right then go for it.
