slowcore-shoegaze-dreampop stew is the best kind of stew. or perhaps i just like saying, 'stew'.

slowcore was a brilliant genre/scene. sort of before my time, but i have grown to appreciate it very much now.

Why does that affect how you hear the music?

I mean, look at Charles Manson, and what he did.

And he made really nice music.

I've not heard a great deal of them, to be honest. I just know them from the Slint connection (it's Brian McMahan's project, and David Pajo and possibly other Slint alumni have been involved).

I need to hear more stuff from Touch & Go, as well. Seems to be the go-to label if you're interested in a lot of the Louisville post-hardcore / post-rock stuff (speaking of which, The Sonora Pine might be a good mention, if they can be counted as slowcore).

Also -- Sparklehorse? Certainly not all of it can be called slowcore, but some of it definitely can. Case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2HUJhhIrgI, which is freaking beautiful.

there were many brilliant bands on that label. Three best examples:

Bedhead
Rachel's
Red Stars Theory

Many of the bands in their roster are well worth further investigation. I still haven't gone through all of them myself!

A good percentage of Yo La Tengo's back-catalogue can probably be described as slowcore. Especially 'And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out'.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention Yo La Tengo in this thread.

I would also like to throw in Papercuts. Not really "slowcore" but a lot of tracks off You Can Have What You Want are really slow and drone-y.

And you'd have to add the Red House Painters to that list of band as well.
