Not as souless as blank black box that's for sure.
No and I mean, each to their own. I just meant it sounded to me like someone trying to sound like BoC but it just wasn't clicking with me. It is at least something to listen to.
No worries my good man, it was just an off-the-cuff remark, nothing serious.

It would be hard to imagine that it was put on the website without an intention of releasing something within the same year FFS. That would be completely ridiculous. We shall see.

yeah there's something about the sound of this stuff that is almost a little bit too synthy for BoC. I'd say if there's any chance of this being actually by the brothers it's older material but I doubt it. It is pretty decent though.

Yeah I think that's what gets me about it. At some points it's like you can imagine they've gone "OK, this needs a synth lead over the top here" and they've reached for a BoCish monosynth lead and jammed it in, and the whole thing just gets a bit... crowded. It's like each one of those sounds is similar to something that's been on a BoC track before, but I've never heard anything by them where they've just mushed them together like that.

It's pretty much all monosynths though. There's no sounds in there like the long, washy delay swooshes from the TCH era, no little punctuation from vintaged sounds that appear once and never appear again like Geogaddi... the drums are kind of set up as they are and they don't really develop much through the track... Apart from that one bit in Magic Timeline no samples culled from god-knows-where.

Above all, there's more space in the real stuff, more time for things to develop and then get out of the way for the next thing. This stuff has something else chucked in every few bars, like they're just so goddamn happy to be making a "BoC track". And you know, it's really OK stuff, musically, if they'd dialled back the trying to sound BoCish and it came out with another name on it I'd probaby buy it. But it's just... I might just believe this was a set of sketches, or jam sessions or something, but it doesn't feel like BoC.

I mean, the first time I heard Dead Dogs Two, way after hearing their other stuff, I thought "wow, this is a different sound for them", well, its a mix so it would be. But still, after a few seconds you can unquestioningly feel their hand in it, there's just something about the style of it that screams their imprint on it. This is the exact opposite of that, it's like it has a good line in ingredients (well, one set of ingredients, maybe) but everything about the style of it feels like it's someone else.

Just my 4c. Of course all that said it's going to turn out to be real now and I'll look like a dick :)

Why should WATMM get first of anything? As far as I'm concerned, this is the first stop for BoC info, then WATMM.

If you got hold of an unreleased album by a band and wanted to leak it for real, you'd go for the widest audience. Stick it on a torrent and blat the links over everywhere simultaneously. If you'd made a fake to try and get a rise out of the fans you'd drop it on a fan website - here or WATMM would do.

There is a third option - it's a teaser leak by someone inside the band inner circle. In which case you'd probably get the name of your record company right on the MP3s. Plus I mean mdg's dropped things like the Solange mixes under his own name, there'd be no reason for registering a fake account to do it.

Imagine if the leak was real, when you all found out you'd be be talking about how genius BoC is. At least, that's how I envisage the situation.

I'd be gutted if it was real as it sounds really amateurish, almost like a synth demo. If it has taken them 7 years to produce this then god help. I'm not completely rubbishing it as it is okay but if this is BoC I'm Flabergasted and they have lost the plot...

Honestly, it'd be the first time they released something I was disappointed with. (Old unreleased stuff doesn't really count, you kinda got to take that for what it is).

Joyrex has already mentioned over at WATMM that it has nothing to do with them btw, just in case anyone believes it could be them. That's if you believe he's actually an 'insider' and such anyway.

It does feel half-baked like demos or rough mixes but the placement of the beats and synths leads me to think it was made by them.
