and I. I take meds and alcohol to help me sleep. Nothing works except sheer exhaustion. I really an starting to thing that the internet usage in the evening instead of reading a book is primarily to blame. I don't know how I'm going to address this...

I have a messed up sleeping pattern also, just the other day I went to bed at 7am, waking up at 2.30pm. I try my hardest to sleep at night, but most of the time I can't, usually put it down to being too warm (even if it is almost winter). So it's either that or just the sheer fact I'd rather listen to music instead of sleeping.

This might sound vulgar as fuck, but I find masturbation helps me nod off.

ahh well at least im not alone i suppose. its just embarassing when it starts to affect your everyday life. im like a sloth. and the urge to sleep is so overpowering i generally cant stop it. im on medication for it, fat lot of good its doing. just got to work up the courage to go to the doctor and say "yeah, so i think you're wrong".

jeez dats dangerous-- and how my older bro almost died...

I actually woke up at 11:30 for the first time in a while today.. been going to bed a SEVEN and sleeping till three or four :?

for some reason even if I'm dead tired my brain just won't quit and I end up staying awake in bed till ungodly hours thinking nothing but nonsense and the desire to sleep and I get pissed off to the point it wakes me up lol.

I didn't sleep for forty two hours this past week though.. and it fixed my schedule for a day but then after I went to sleep at one and woke up at four and cursed my brain. It really bothers me because I'm a lucid/vivid dreamer and I love dreams but my pattern always gets so fucked that I don't get enough REM sleep or am too disorganized to reflect on my dreams.

Also: I'll admit to the jerking-off thing helps in getting to sleep.. sorry folks :P That's a chemical thing

you need a certain amount of rem sleep to be normal. i remember reading some article ages ago about speed/coke heads becoming schizophrenic and all kinds of crazy because of dicking around and staying awake for days on end. long term users i imagine, but still..

in other news, tv at these ungodly hours is so boring ive put subtitles on for fun.

My sleep has gone a bit bonkers recently.

Just when I'd FINALLY started getting full night's sleep again with the wee one sleeping through - I've found myself not being able to get to sleep until about 1am. Then waking up at about 5. Tired...

Pretty sure I remember reading a study, or perhaps Freudian theory which states that the importance of REM sleep is paramount. It is there for our subconscious to act out its desires in its own realm and not interfere with our conscious existence, or something like that. I think it's also important for the maintaining and functionality of memory, REM sleep organises and files all the information you have left ticking over in your head. Perhaps why your concerns are projected into your dreams in some sort of allegory.

It seems fairly consistent but I don't know much about it. Really interesting though.
Sagan: In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

Basinski: I wanted Cascade to become this crystalline organism like a star or a liquid crystal spaceship, a jellyfish traveling through the galaxy…

yeah its all very interesting stuff. i read something else about sleep paralysis. its meant to happen so you dont go doing crazy things at the will of your subconscious. people have used the not having sleep paralysis as defence in murder trials and stuff. pretty weird.

Melatonine helped me alot. Had 20mg pills, they were amazing. Now I don't use them anymore and find myself sleeping alot better these days. However,I still have the occasional night in which I don't sleep even 5 minutes. Like Jakestott said, masturbation helps as well, haha.

yeah every time I don't sleep or stay up for obscenely long amounts of time I get cracked out and almost delirious. Which can be fun lol. But no REM sleep is incredibly important and even if you sleep if you don't get enough REM sleep you can die supposedly.

Also I tend to distrust a lot of Freud's theories because he was a lunatic and sort of a fraud. But he was getting at something with the whole subconscious thing in sleep but I think it's way more complex than he says or postulates. Mostly because the subconscious is a lot more complicated and powerful than he thought and lately there's been studies that seem to show that intuition or 'gut feelings' are largely because of our subconscious which receives and calculates an absurd amount of sensory input without us even noticing.

Yeah that's my general consensus as well. lol. He did too much coke and got carried away with relating everything and I mean EVERYTHING to something sexual. Sure as human beings that kind of stuff is going to play a role in behavior and all that but some of his shit.. just come on. His theories were wayyyy too bizarre.

in other news I'm back to being nocturnal after a week of getting up at a reasonable time :?

On the subject of interesting sleep things, there was a time where I was looking into something that I believe was called the Uberman sleep schedule I want to say? Basically you sleep for like twenty minutes every four hours I think, somewhere around those numbers. I guess the idea is that you force yourself to go into REM sleep at the intervals, but adjusting to it takes over a week or something. If I had the ability to, I would totally try it out for curiosity's sake, but having any kind of a schedule would make it tough. It's important to realize this sort of sleeping schedule is completely unnatural and could not be maintained without an alarm clock. Anyhow, just some food for thought.
You're gonna carry that weight.

Woo hoo! Another messed-up night's sleep - asleep at 1am, up at 6. But up for an hour twice in that timeframe.

You know you're tired when you feel yourself doze off in the shower...

Yeah I've always been interested in doing that but am also weary of how disorienting it would get. The shift from a typical sleep routine to this would be absolute insanity for a while.

Sort of off topic but I've recently been having super super vivid dreams including a zombie apocalypse dream last night which was really fucking cool in its vividness but also absolutely awful as most of my family died as a result of zombies everywhere. I remember I had abandoned my house and town and the state of MA for a while and then visited and the entire town was abandoned minus zombies wandering around every so often and I paid a visit to my house and went in and there was a zombie in the backyard which was terrifying but I got rid of it and it was eerie how vivid it all was.

Later in the dream I found my brother and my dogs had been taken by zombies and I literally was shrieking and yelling and bawling my brains out it was so disturbing and upsetting.

I then had a lucid dream where I proceeded to fly through a forest with gigantic trees that must have been miles tall it made real life redwoods look tiny and I was just looking down to a forest floor that looked miles away. Then the forest opened up into an amazing sun shining valley with mountains stretching across the entire place. It was a good contrast to the first dream to say the least.
