It was probably 2001 or 2002 (Yes, I got into the Warp following pretty late in the game, I know. I'm still young :p) and I was over at our local Bargain World, some thrift store I always went to and bought cassette tapes and coloring books and old computer equipment at as a kid... got my first 4-channel mixer and turntable there

Anyway, yeah, I was looking through all the CDs and found a copy of Music Has The Right To Children, and it was the coolest album cover I'd ever seen so I picked it up just to see what it was. I listened to Roygbiv a lot but otherwise the CD collected dust until I ended up getting into Aphex Twin in probably 2005, where I thereafter grabbed my BoC CD and became pretty much addicted.

Suffice to say that I was too young and too impatient with my music to listen to these guys when I first heard about them, but hey. I was in grade school

I was listening at the time to Kid loco's DJ-Kicks, and one of the tracks was Happy Cycling. I noticed this one particularly, but didn't go further. Then some years later I heard Sixtyniner on Nova, a french radio, I loved it and checked the artist on the radio website. I recalled the name when I saw it, then I checked their other stuff and loved it all, for months, until I realized it became my favorite band.

Hmm... one boring Sunday I was looking at this list and saw Boards of Canada towards the end of the 1990's period. I'd heard a lot of my friends from the chipmusic scene mention them before so I checked out MHTRTC. It was like a style of electronic music that I'd always wanted to listen to but could never find before. Since then I've been engrossed in BoC

Heard about them through a friend of mine, who played 'Roygbiv' from MHTRTC in summer '98. It was one of those incredible 'who the hell is that??!!' moments. A few of my friends had been getting into electronic music in a big way from the mid 90's on-wards, but I stayed clear, as I had this misconception that alot of it was unmelodic & soulless. BoC changed all that, it was the first electronically based music I had heard that was dripping with melody & emotion. And they've been giving me that ever since.

Sometime in middleschool I think late 2002 early 2003, 7th grade or so I was working on a geography project focused on canada - I was doing some reasearch and came across geogaddi and I've been listening since with absolutaly no signs of stopping.

1998 after buying Orblivion and Daft punk I was looking into Euro electronica for real, heard them on Amazon.com sound-samples, Colour of the Fire sold me and was instantly amazed by the PBS sound because it was real deal. Bought Pole1, MHTRTC, EP7, and APHEX AMB1 all together. Was a good intro!

I listened to Music Has the Right to Children a few years ago but only liked roygbiv. Then I slowly acquired the rest of their stuff and realized they are religion.

Initially I saw Music Has the Right to Children on recommendation lists but couldn't really get into them, besides a pair of tracks (I remember Wildlife Analysis and Kaini Industries in particular).

Then I asked, on a forum dealing with TV adverts, about the music on a Burn commercial. Turns out it was specifically made for the commercial, but copying the style of a track called "1969". Some time after that I bought Geogaddi, and I remember listening to it for the first time while studying for an exam back at high school so that must have been like maybe 10 years ago, at least 8 years ago.

This seems to be as good a thread as any for my first post.

I had just finished watching something on Youtube and in the related videos, a still from the EYDIAB video caught my attention so I put it on and my jaw hit the floor. The only bad part was when I went to get some more BOC stuff, it was really hard to find Boc Maxima or Hi Scores so I had to get them from Ebay and listened to the three studio albums constantly while waiting for them. Only about 3 or 4 bands in my life have had this much of an effect on me and BoC are the first band in the last 10 years to captivate me this much - it's so cool to see among the BoC fan community online that pretty much everyone has this really deep connection to them.

sometime around 1999 at college. i recall a friend telling me about this cover (MHTRTC) with strange blocked out faces on it, weeks later it was at his desk so i got a copy then. hmm liked it but wasn't mad on it first. took a while, i'm not a fan of hip-hop anyway so its beat style was the first hurdle for me. then Geogaddi came along and that did it for me. dunno why i never bought it on vinyl, had 2 chances, first and then the repress. even Campfire i didnt buy the vinyl as it didnt hit me greatly, had same effect as MHTRTC. kind of sorry now, have Geogaddi and all their eps on vinyl though. Campfire is a treasure of an album now that i hear it but i'm a Geogaddi person. today, the hip-hop thing i don't hear anymore, its Boards of Canada, its their sound now, it's just their thing.

I was a bit of a late comer as far as BoC are concerned.

Years ago when I was making minimalist beatless music influenced by Basinski, SotL, Fennesz etc. people kept telling me my stuff sounded like BoC. I didn't pay much heed.

Later, when I started making music with beats in my current guise, I kept getting told my stuff was very "boardsy", and eventually when I figured out what the hell they were talking about, I decided it was time to check them out, and I'm very glad I did.
