How many members were there before the dynamic duo?

If you read between the lines, that is a bone. It sounds as though they are working/remastering all the old material. I presume a new album is also in the pipe line, as widely speculated.zeoevil wrote:Maybe they could just throw us a bone or something?mdg wrote:zeoevil wrote: At this point, I think it comes down to finding the other members and dealing with the legal ramifications of releasing the old material. They might not even be able to find some of those people so the possibility that we might hear all of Duffy or Infinite Sevens or "insert your favorite here" is effectively null.

Perhaps BoC plan to knock all their fans socks off with a killer series of punches? Ages of silence followed by a huge blast of activity. Who knows...
I hate to be a pessimist, but it sounds to me like they haven't even started it because of the sheer volume of work that would have to be done. Assuming they still have the masters of some of that old material (Catalog 3, I'm looking at you), there is a lot of work to be done. If they are doing it at the same time they work on a new album, that would be a monumental task likely to leave even the hardiest musician seriously burned out.warphead wrote:If you read between the lines, that is a bone. Yet, at the same time, I can't help but imagine how listening to old songs would affect the new material. The idea makes me giggle with joy. Less Geogaddi and more Old Tunes would suit me nicely.

If you read between the lines, you'd know this is the same response this forum has got regarding the status of any/all future BoC releases from Mr. MDG over the past FIVE YEARS. Not that I'm complaining, appreciate when he speaks up about the Brothers Sandison.warphead wrote: If you read between the lines, that is a bone. So don't read too much into it. They're just working, as they have been, and will continue to until we get a legit announcement over some new material. And then we can rejoice, etc.
The preparation for a dive is always a tense time.
Read between the lines? He said they haven't done it because of the time commitment. We, as twoismers, clearly have the "it's been a long time since they released new material" template properly bolted into our brains, so when we hear "something like that is a huge time commitment" we immediately think that there's new material coming out.
We're not reading between the lines, we're just reading what we want to read

This seems right somehow. I never thought Chris was involved in the Old Tunes stuff we've heard. If only because, as I understand it, the tapes were given out as kind of promo of what Mike and Marcus have behind them (on top of BOC Maxima) and were to show that they were capable of more than one good CD. If they'd included Chris as well it would have been misleading or improper somehow.mdg wrote:Any and all early material by BOC was 100% written by Mike Sandison & Marcus Eoin. On the other hand this would mean that there is a body of material involving Chris under another name, wouldn't it? MDG?

I personally think reading between the lines is pointless; the music, new or old, will come when it comes. We're blessed in that we have a rich and extensive back catalogue and I'm happy to continue to deepen my listening of it until something new is released.

Not sure that this is exactly true... If you look at the liner notes on the 'A Few Old Tunes' tape, it credits the "Music70 gang" including Frazer Clarke (Happy Cycling) and ' Esp. Simon... Iain, Chris Horne' - Chris Horne being the artist now known as Christ. I booked him to play a few years ago, he stayed with me, and although I didn't pester him about his time with/in BoC he did say that he was on a track on Twoism and the rights were bought from him when it was re-issued (although I'm not at liberty to disclose which track - it stands out a little from the rest). I can imagine that it would be a mine-field getting clearance or people would want royalties.mdg wrote:zeoevil wrote:At this point, I think it comes down to finding the other members and dealing with the legal ramifications of releasing the old material. Of course, the brothers themselves have not given any solid answers to this, and unless we ever get a proper release of that material, we probably never will.

As much as I'd love to hear the old stuff, unless one of the friends or family leak it - I don't think we'll get to - apart from the "A Few Old Tunes' and 'Old Tunes Vol 1 and 2' that have done the rounds. Sorry!

Someone who might have been in contact with the brothers and as such might be in possession of one microscopic bit of their DNA stayed with you?
Time for a full forensic sweep of your house.
We could recreate them...from their dna...like that sheep......Sally was it?

Christ did indeed stay with me, but in an old house - call off the forensic squad! He's a lovely guy and an awesome musician in his own right, we chatted a bit about BoC/HSC, but like I said, I didn't pester him about it. We met up again a few years later and I gave him a circuit bent keyboard too.Jinjur wrote:Wait.......orange hexagon sun wrote:Not sure that this is exactly true... Nope. That is a stand out track, granted, but that's not it... Maybe it stands out to me as I know who wrote it. Listen to this:zeoevil wrote: Must be Basefree. Has to be Basefree. Everything else on that album is good.
