how will you listen to it?

Post by Cupz »

When a new release finally arrives, how are you going to listen to it?

I wondered this just now, while listening to the new mbv for the first time. Its an album people waited for a hell of a long time and I just put it on like it didn't matter.

Obviously I want something special for my childhood favorite band, maybe throw a red-moon party (too much talking)? How can this album be eaten up for as much as possible in the first listen?

Some ideas as of writing:
Blindfolded.
New headphones.
Eating pancakes with maple syrup.
In the woods.
Weed.
Shrooms.
All at the same time?

So, who wants to go in the woods with me with discmans, start a campfire, take shrooms, smoke weed until the shrooms kick in talking about how excited we are, start feeling the shrooms kicking in, put blindfolds on, listen to the cd in its entirety, wake up, laugh and cry about how awesome that was, have a huge party with loud music, fall asleep with the album on repeat, wake up and eat pancakes for breakfast?
Throw away your smartphone.

That sounds awesome, man. I'd be up for that :)

I've thought about it a lot too.. I would probably do something boring like wait for Friday night, turn all the lights out, put on my sennheisers and try and experience the album in the purest way possible. Of course, that might end up raising my expectations and leaving me disappointed!

With a decent amount of pot. And headphones. Blindfolded and while being naked, with a little toy soldier insterted up my bum.

But seriously, good headphones and pot. On my own while wandering in the dark.

With my best pair of headphones, that's for sure. Depending on when I get the music, it'll either be in my room with the lights off at night, or out for a drive through the mountains/hills in Quebec. Maybe in the middle of the forest out at my folks place if it comes when there is no snow. I'll bring a chair and just relax out there.

So ya, one of those options.

I actually think social environment/redmoon thing could be the way to go. Maybe even a few moments like that, rather than the isolated concentrating too hard that would likely come from some solitary first listening experiences.

I think of when I first got into BoC; at first it was some little snippets of mp3s I had here and there, then everynow and then they were more frequently played at social environments and my love started to grow...

...then I remember this one instant, after a simple batch of hash brownies that sent us into a half-sleep, my friend (who was at that time more into BoC than me; me only knowing little snippets) put on IABPOITC, and said it was 'perfect'. After we listened to the whole thing, I agreed... I was hooked...

So, yeah-- I'd go for social :)

Maybe, when an announcement ACTUALLY HAPPENS, we could arrange some Twoism redmoon-style gatherings? Or, try and arrange that Geogaddi-era church listening thing. That'd be sweet.

Shrooms also ^_-

A joint and headphones in the woods.

Or tripping with some friends in a nice room/a bonfire.

Assuming I don't have a heart attack over the news that a new boc is to be released, I dream of sitting outside, preferably during the spring, summer or fall at dusk, with a cup of tension tamer tea, and maybe a beer, and just listening and staring into the sky. no distractions.

same here, but instead of a joint, i will be dabbing oil or smoking a pipe.

i usually listen to new albums on my own time, its tough for me to give my full attention to the music if i am around other people.

i'll probably have listened to it several times prior to arranging some kind of setting to listen pretending for it to be my first time even though the surprise has gone. i think this time it will be alone, digital mp3/flac first then vinyl later. i'm never good at waiting for the vinyl, patience will be nil this time, its been too feckin long!

what are they at? 8 years!!! granted and i know, these 2 guys are under immense pressure to maintain the standard and possibly out do previous releases. theres a lot to be considered, which direction this will take is exciting, tis tough at the top!

I will be doing the same. Though it will have to be in the woods.

I will put on my best tweed jacket, head to a nice grassy hill with a splendid view on a perfect sunny day. I will sit there and take it all in while enjoying a glass of wine and a selection of fine cheese.

Maybe I will smoke a pipe or two.
