What are you writing?

So I picked up writing a few years ago, and I still suck, but I can't be the only twoismer who likes to express himself (or his fictional self) in words.

This is what I wrote today:

the first page of a short story. I'm thinking of throwing it away as it reminds me of the movie Fantastic Planet a little too much (except less good, etc, etc)

So how about you? Got any novels in the works? Ambitious projects? Random scribbles, poems, whatever?

i rather like this cupz. though id maybe join a few of the paragraphs together so it looks a bit more solid. fantastic planet is unknown to me so i cant compare, but i did like this

i used to write random scribbles many moons ago. and i read so much for uni now i always think yeah i want to write a novel one day. but its finding the time. and self belief i guess. i really love the essays im writing at the moment, especially on film and gothic. it takes me a while to get into it but once im in i really enjoy it. but it would be nice to have more creative input as i find it a bit limiting sometimes just writing about other peoples work. especially when i read something and think yeah it would be better if...

Very creative, Hendrik. I have a vivid picture of these tiny aliens landing. I want to see this made into a short CGI film.

This is a long shot, but is any of this at all inspired by Mr. Lem, in light of your post in the what are you reading thread?

I write a lot of poetry

as of late due to my creative writing class. I really enjoy writing this stuff though. I could post something I guess...

Also in my spare time I've been writing a really bizarre drug-induced short story, and I've been having a lot of fun with it. I don't know how legible it is though lol..

I've started writing short stories recently.

None of them are close to being finished. I may as well post the first bit of a sort of vaguely "meta" mystery story I started...

Now, I’m no authority on these things, but I can safely say that Oliver Law was a good actor.
I’d met him four years ago when he was researching the role he would later become famous for, that of private investigator Brian Poer in When it Rains, it Poers. He tailed me on a couple of cases, studying the nuances of my daily performance (when Brian Poer hits a dead-end in his cases and looks up at the ceiling, expertly fumbling with a coin in his right hand – that’s all me. Though I tended to drop the coin more often). Sort of ironically, though, I probably learned a bit more from him: some of those drama school basics proved pretty handy when trying to look casual when tailing someone, or when I had to assume another identity... also that takeaway place he showed me does really good pizza and stays open late into the night (ideal in my line of work – I can’t count the number of times a real breakthrough has been accompanied by the taste of melted cheese and tomato sauce).
Yeah, Law was a good actor.
Which is why there was a part of me that thought he could be just playing dead.

(early draft, thus any dodginess that can't just be explained by me being a total amateur)

Not quite sure about it yet, to be honest.

I think so, he is the writer I've been reading lately (I read One Human Minute before falling asleep yesterday). I don't really see any connection except it containing the fantastic.

Oh, thank you! I know where I want it to go, but I'm having trouble getting it there without it being too jarring and awkward (it seems to go through a portion of broad comedy, and then metafictional playing around).

Working on a bunch of other stuff, at this moment a little thing about a conversation between two people who keep getting distracted.

but that said i didnt think the bit you've shared was jarring or awkward at all anyway, i really like it!

I've been meaning to read any of the Sherlock Holmes stories for so long (and even more since reading A Wild Sheep Chase, which alludes to it a few times -- which just kept reminding me).

As my formerly massive backlog of books seems to be decreasing, I may pick it up.

Okay so here's the deal- I just finished my short story. I've edited it a couple of times, and will probably continue to edit it in the future. There's probably some typos and stuff that needs to be re-worded/worked on still.

But my question, is anyone willing to read it? In a text file it's 46 pages...

Essentially it's about a dude who sells drugs on the deep web, he's addicted to this new chem that with higher doses causes delusions and vivid hallucinations so there's all this delusional bizarre stuff that happens throughout. But basically he inadvertently gets involved with a drug cult and is caught between a major underground drug war and it gets all sorts of fucked up.

There's a talking cockroach, a man hooked up to a computer terminal, acid, some abstract poetry/prose in parts, some violent disturbing stuff, a little philosophy, a battle between chaos and order, and other stuff.
