love the score and the scenery in this,never seen the desert look so beautiful

^ you know what, i thought the exact same thing about the desert. im studying a film studies module at the mo & we talk about lighting and all that jazz, and considering the content, and how distressed the guy gets in the desert, its weird they chose such bright vivid scenery as opposed to something dark if you know what i mean. really works though, great film.

I watched the anime Mindgame a couple nights ago. It was pretty cool. Very different from anything I've seen before. Check it out.

Seven Psychopaths

Some of the reviews had me a little worried, but it was ace.
Christopher Walken was absolutely fab, as was Tom Waits, and just about everybody else in it.

Anyway, I've had a bit of a Charlie Kaufman binge lately - watched Adaptation, Being John Malkovich, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and got Synedoche, New York to watch soon, as well.

All of them explore interesting themes that relate quite strongly to someone like me with a tendency to overthink and to overanalyse a bit too much; managing to balance being really funny and entertaining films with being quite experimental and thought-provoking about some interesting themes (the human mind, memory, how we relate to our world, the distance between humanity and 'nature', etc.).

In addition to that, another film-maker I got really into recently (late 2012, I guess) is Wes Anderson, who I understand is kind of divisive (and understandably so). Watching Moonrise Kingdom in particular actually seems to have done good things for my mood and attitude, which has been sort of on a downer since university and feeling unable to progress with my life at present. What I've seen of his work (mostly, I wasn't as keen on Darjeeling, though I should re-watch cause I was tired as hell when I watched it and maybe it wasn't the best entry point) I've just found to be really clever, distinctive, original film-making that doesn't fail to make me feel happier and better about the world and about being human.

Wes Anderson is truly the shit. I love all his stuff I've seen- Royal Tenenbaums, Darjeeling, Life Aquatic, Moonrise- all really good.

Just watched Enter the Void.

Acting was shit, but conceptually the film is very interesting and the cinematography holds your attention enough that the quality of the acting isn't that important, relatively speaking.
