The video is authentic Hexagon Sun material (soundboard recording of BoC, official Hexagon Sun-made video), so we can assume the uploader has very real links to BoC. That isn't to say he isn't trolling, but considering he is also probably well aware that BoC fans are aware of his links, I don't see why he'd want to alienate the band's fanbase by doing so.

The more i think about it, the more this bums me out a little bit, even if it is real.

I loved how out of nowhere CFH's release seemed to be (and some of the other earlier albums, even geogaddi's promo and listening was relatively mellow), no months prior announcement, no official anticipatory build-up, and definitely no cryptic Dan Brown-esque mystery games, which doesn't seem to sync with how I see BOC. Much of the mystique and speculation surrounding the guys is really fan driven; at the core of it they're just a couple of perfectionists who enjoy a quieter life surrounded by trusted people. The byproduct of that is the over-analyzation of everything BOC in the hopes that they are giving us new information found between the lines, when in reality they're just a couple of reclusive family men who make music at their own pace.

This random release (and following hype) of a mysterious limited edition, nondescript vinyl treasure map doesn't seem like something they would be interested in. If it is legit, maybe it's more Warp exploiting the obsessive fandom and ebay/discog collection completists by adding another rarity to the catalog. Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic, but I appreciated the humility of the older releases to this, if that's what this is.

I agree. But then again, they do pull shit like the "yes" fbook comment and the blackbox on their site, so clearly they like the mysterious shit to some degree.

i think they probably enjoy the sense of adventure in this kind of thing more that you think. their whole aesthetic is pretty intuitive, not led by calculation, but by feeling, so this doesn't seem out of sorts to me.

I don't wish to add fuel to the fire of things which might be links but actually aren't, but here's something I thought of when I heard the vinyl video...

The voice that reads out the numbers 936557 sounds quite similar to the digitized voice that was used for "Max Headroom" when some people took over a couple of TV stations' signals in 1987 and broadcast a weird message, and have never been caught. The incicent has been dubbed "The Max Headroom Broadcast Signal Intrusion" - anyone else heard of this?

It's just an effect known as ring modulation, gets used all the time in electronic music so probably no connection.

It's also a sound you get on shortwave radio sideband when you aren't tuned exactly to the correct frequency of a broadcast, which furthers my suspicion that they're emulating a numbers station.
