Re: Who Knows
this - but so many of them are just fragments. Whoever put the tape together was probably a trusted friend of the band, and the chopjob done on many of the tracks has prevented people from accurately matching them up with song titles based on song length.KingSpanner wrote:I bet we've already heard a lot of them in some form or another from the Random 35 Tracks Tapeclipped wrote:what if the old ones are shit though, just teenagers fiddling about? i know it's romantic to think about hearing those fabled albums (if they even exist), but most of the time things aren't released for a reason.b0qurant wrote: If this happens, I'll probably cry real, saline tears.
My guess, that tape probably has at least 1/3 of the total material from those releases. The guitar heavy shoegazy stuff in particular from that tape is likely from Play By Numbers.

What about shortwave radio? Maybe we need to keep an eye out for clues to a shortwave bandwidth to monitor. It would fit the numbers station theme.I think the first number (1977 as hinted at by Julie and Candy) will be the one that is broadcast on TV, now that radio and the internet have been covered

Re: Who Knows
Are you a Random 35 Tracks non believer? I remember some skepticism about it originally...but one of the tracks was repurposed for Seven Forty Seven, and the tape was being passed around online for awhile before Seven Forty Seven was released to the rest of the world. That made it pass the smell test for me. Not to mention, it always seemed to have their fingerprints all over from a musical perspectiveMagrathea wrote:At the risk of being hit by the Anathem: Random 35 Tracks Tape Meh!KingSpanner wrote: I bet we've already heard a lot of them in some form or another from the Random 35 Tracks Tape
Or if the meh is just because you're not into the music, I get that too. It's probably my favorite of those tapes because its so eclectic, you can really see how their songwriting process manifested itself in different ways beyond their current "safe" zones - some nice shoegazy/gothy bits in there too.

Oh no, I believe it is authentic, but there's just too much stuff happening on there, and I realize that it's the way it was crafted by whoever made it public, clearly yes there are different sessions, different years, but it's just that put together as it is it's not an enjoyable listen, the good bits get jarred by the nonsensicalOpothecary wrote:Are you a Random 35 Tracks non believer? Do we even have confirmation that the NPR number is legit? The first two had official links and a code position. the third was from the BBC and had a code position - the NPR number does not. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet though, as I've been at work..
Eg code 1 was on a Warp released vinyl, and Other Music said they were given it by Warp.
Code 2, the first clue was on a YouTube channel that is thought to have ties to the band (AtalantaFugiens) and links to the csch video were provided by hellinterface.
Code 3 was from BBC, and gave a posiition.
Just wondering, since everyone is trying hard to *make* (reversing the number, other numerology stuff) this code fit when it doesn't..

We don't need confirmation... it's NPR...Capt Kittinger wrote:Do we even have confirmation that the NPR number is legit? It isn't unreasonable to think that though, he's from australia.Yellow Records wrote:Thank you.krs wrote:We don't need confirmation... it's NPR...Capt Kittinger wrote:Do we even have confirmation that the NPR number is legit? Also try to follow the logic of it being fake and them broadcasting it... it doesn't go very far.
I honestly cannot wait for a new release. It's going to be incredible. And I hope it's a bit scarier than campfire headphase... I'm feeling a more serious turn coming around...
I'm also so glad that the rumors of a summer release from a few twoism members have established credibility. I was getting tired of people discrediting every potential source for new information.

Sure, but why don't they have the code position? The BBC published theirs in the playlist. I checked NPR's twitter feeds (@NPR, @NPRmusic), but there was nothing there.krs wrote:NPR is 'National Public Radio' for the US, a very established radio network that's been around for many years. It's like the bbc for us, except there's no tv network.
As I said, I'm at work and am hamstrung in what I can do on the web - so I haven't been able to listen to the recording. Is it possible that NPR have somehow been duped? EgSome troll has managed to feed them the recording?
What I'm getting at (and I get that NPR is as respectable as the BBC), is that the NPR number is the only one so far that does not seem to fit the pattern. Yes, there were multiple instances of Code 1, but they all had the same number/position. It would make sense that today multiple radio stations would broadcast a number, but wouldn't it be the *same* number, with a code position? Plus, they've been released one per day, except today.
Not only this, but it doesn't fit the mathematical patterns that people have identified. That said, I don't necessarily accept that those patterns were intended to be there, so the NPR number doesn't necessarily need to fit those patterns. Personally I don't think it makes sense to be arbitrarily reversing the number to make it fit...
I just find this one a bit curious, that's all.

Granted, but I was wondering whether they could've been duped by a troll? There's been plenty of those with the YouTube videos... (as I say, I haven't heard it yet)TaoTapeTao wrote:Also try to follow the logic of it being fake and them broadcasting it... it doesn't go very far.
It was the fact that there'd already been a different number released today, with a code posiiton, that made me wonder. It surprised me that they'd release 2 different codes in the same way on the same day, given the preceding events.

I mean yes it does stand out a tiny bit in relation to the consistency in which everything else was released but for right now these are extraneous details because we don't have enough else to go on. I'd say if an order isn't revealed at some point soon... ie tomoro or the next day that we should be a bit more weary about the npr thing but really it just seems near impossible for npr to broadcast a fake.Capt Kittinger wrote:Granted, but I was wondering whether they could've been duped by a troll? EDIT: Also listen to the voices in sequence... they all sound too similar. It would take intensely careful manipulation for some troll to perfect the ring modulator/vocoded voice as it sounds in the recordings. There is a lot more sound in the NPR one but there's miscellaneous background noise in all of the recordings.

Of course warp and boc guys prepared for trolls. Trolls cant predict next way to present numbers. First it was just a papper of vinyl - easy to forge, but not if you didnt know about it. Second - youtube, where forgery appeared after our record. And now radio! There are not much trolls there, i dont know no one of them.
