I have to say though the term IDM seems to be used rather freely even though most of it isn't dance music, intelligent or otherwise.
Did you ever heard of 'Horizontal dancing' :?: :P

We went through this already didn't we?

Yep it started with Come To Daddy for me also. Although Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers was the first cd to get me into electronic music, Aphex was the one to bring me to the "dark side".

I can't really remember for sure, but i was always into Eno and general early electronic stuff, and then stuff like the Orb and Orbital which led me to Aphex and BOC and Autechre.

I think the term IDM is stupid, btw. :D

Bought? Probably MHTRTC, actually, via getting a bit obsessed with ROYGBIV on an NME cover CD. I was already into Kraftwerk, but kind of thought of that as an aberration from my indie path; at the time (I'd have been 18/19) I was getting heavily into Mogwai/Godspeed You! Black Emperor/Sigur Ros style postrock.

Weirdly, my musical obsessions - postpunk and melodic IDM - developed in parallel from there. I blame Radiohead, considering that really those are their prime influences...
