I hereby create this thread to help show a bit of love to all things visually appealing to the eyeballs. For starters: Bridget Riley.







Even though her earlier work, such as 'Movement in Squares' (the third picture) is more famous because of the emergence of the Op Art scene in the 60s, I find her later colour work a lot more compelling due to the extra movement she affords within a fixed field and not relying so much on symmetry subversion/ inversion, which got a bit stale for me.

So what do you crazy kids dig?

N.B: I looked around and couldn't find a thread like this already, but if there is one then just bin this.

Yes! good thread, always wanted to make an Art thread, but I didn't know how well it'd go down.

Anyway, this is my favourite art piece. Zweistromland by Anselm Kiefer. Have you ever seen something so impressive and imposing in your life? Amazing.

^^^ I've always liked Anselm Kiefer's work, especially his use of texture in his pieces.


Leon Kossoff's Portrait of Father No. 2 has great texture too.




I'm also particularly fond of Kay Sage since I'm a sucker for surrealism.

I really like those Bridget Rielly pieces, esp the first two. Those remind me a little of some of Gunta Stolzl's textiles

I quite like those! I don't really keep up with textile designers but I might have to investigate that guy.

I can't really put my finger on what it is about Nagel's work that appeals to me so much. On the one hand I was an 80s kid so I think there's a certain degree of nostalgia about it, but I think he had such a great eye for composition by uses organic shapes and curvatures within quite a solid, geometric framework. Or something.
