Tomorrow's Harvest inspired by 1977's Deadly Harvest (nope)

Post by justin »

**Update**

"Some of your fans think that there is a link between Tomorrow's Harvest and Deadly Harvest (1977), an obscure Canadian sci-fi film. Is this the case?

ME: Honestly, no. We were not inspired by this film, but I recognize that there are undeniable similarities between the two works. References to the "seeds" on the album are not to be taken literally"

Well that answers that .

Thanks guys !!!!!!

***

So I'm pretty sure I know the inspiration for Tommrrow's Harvest

It's the 1977 Canadian post apocalyptic drama "Deadly Harvest" filmed in Toronto and surrounding areas .
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074380/

I remember seeing this movie a few years ago on CTV or CBC and being rather captivated by it's BOC like Aesthetic / soundtrack and storyline .

Synopsis - A Canadian Farmer struggles to keep food on the table and regain his son who has joined a gang of
marauding city folk during the worlds worst famine .

Sorry there isn't more clips out there

You might be right.

That view of the city on the cover seems to indicate a view-point outside the city with it looming in the landscape.

It's not bad actually . It's a very NFB esq 70's Canadian Film . I really enjoyed it for what it was great concept, ahead of it's time . But then again i'm a sucker for anything on 16mm with a warm warbbly synth soundtrack .

One things for sure, I can definitely see the correlation to Tomorrow's Harvest and it's stark track names. Since the film is about the collapse of society and people killing each other for food i can only imagine how dark this new album will be . Might give Geogaddi a run for its money .

It's also fascinating that Boards of Canada seem to be alternating in album themes

Melodic and positive
Music Has the right to Children -> Campfire Headphase , They also have similar covers color pallets .

Dark and steeped in symbolism, almost prophetic
Geogaddi -> Tomorrow's Harvest . From what i can see the LP inserts are also a similar color pallet to Geogaddi .

I dunno maybe thats a stretch .

Cosecha Mortal? Harvest? Yeah, I'm going to wager this is a direct influence.

And did you notice the Clint Walker character is wearing 'salopettes' ?

The synths convince me of this connection too. I had been wondering what the connection was between the "snow computing etc" stuff was.

Finally an online doomsday reseller for on the go soccer moms !

I think this New album might be a VERY interesting insight into the brothers state of mind .
Maybe they're survivalists living off the grid, their obsession with number stations due to a ham radio hobby etc , etc .

Wow. Had no idea. When I went to that page yesterday I thought it was just some kind of on-line organic grocery store that delivers.

Huh.

the movie is pretty bad, the soundtrack is great however

some of the pad music is pretty awesome, and the choir synths sounds are "very familiar"

that's a crazy website, something tells me I should get at least a 72 hr bag and some heirloom seeds

pretty spot on there, I just watched this last night. it's not a very good movie but the concept is really great, i can see how it could potentially have some influence on BOC and the album.

The soundtrack is awesome, alot of retro snyths. I recommend checking it out, it's got that boc aesthetic to it. Cant promise you'll enjoy the film but if you go into knowing what to expect and what to look for, it's pretty cool.

Holy crap I've almost fallen asleep after watching four minutes.

I like this review of the film on Amazon, "The sound quality was muffled or muted; like my speakers had been placed inside 2 cardboard boxes each." -- which is how I'd describe the music in the teaser video for Tomorrow's Harvest. I'm hoping that track is on the album, but opened up. I really want to hear that growling bass and soaring synths loud and proper.
