Worst, boc track, ever!

i can't believe anyone could hate rue the whirl.........
but the worst track is Zoetrope sorry

Yeah I've wondered if it's a connection I make to the titles too. I think it's also just the repetitiviness of Rue the Whirl. I used to fall asleep to MHTRTC all the time (always fell asleep during Telephasic Workshop) and I'd sometimes wake up during Rue the Whirl, something about it just jars me and gives me nightmare feelings.

I can't complain about people's tastes cuz, ya know, horses for courses, but I was surprised to see telephasic workshop here a couple of times, I think it's one of their coolest tracks. Also gotta throw my love in for The Devil is in the Details, which I mostly love because I'm a hypnotherapist

Hey Saturday Sun for me. It's pretty much the reason why the first half of Campfire is so familiar to me, whereas I hardly listen to the last few tracks- Hey Saturday Sun irks me & it's time to switch off.

Irks me solely for its middle-of-the-road blandness. It's not a bad composition per se, it's just too "chill out compilation" for my liking.

Can't believe Zoetrope's getting slammed either, it's lovely!

Zoetrope is amazing. I could relax to it forever. Worst for me is Farewell Fire. It's honestly the only released BoC track that I have any problems with.

i'll admit that zoetrope, on it's own, is a bit of a head-scratcher, and i certainly don't play it very often. but it works perfectly as the closing track of the "beautiful place" EP. i don't think the EP could have ended with yet another beats-and-synth pad piece - it needed something quirky and oddball to offset the other three tracks. i love that BOC sometimes defy their expectations by doing more difficult things like zoetrope and magic window and farewell fire. it's one of the things that sets them apart from everyone else.

I think June 9th is great... don't see people mention it much. Tracks like June 9th, Red Moss, and Nlogax stand out as being danceable and reminiscent of video game music, which I like.

I get a video gamey feeling from those songs too. And also Chinook, I picture some weird driving game and Chinook is what plays in the haunted swamp level. Also M9, the penultimate boss fight where you have to solve a puzzle to override a giant Soviet super computer and unlock the final stage.

I have a really overactive imagination.

Just listening to MHTRTC again, I love the album, but it does tail off a bit towards the end. Pete Standing Alone is the main offender I think, just feels a bit sluggish and tacked on.

are you sure you have the right track name? "pete" is one of the faster tracks on "music has the right" - it's not sluggish at all. it's also their greatest drum programming achievement in my opinion. maybe you're thinking of "smokes quantity?"

I can't believe anyone could hate Zoetrope or Rue The Whirl... or actually I can, but it's still a shame =), Zoetrope is probably even among my top-10 favorites from them.

Olson and Constants Are Chaning are also a couple I don't really care for. Olson isn't that bad but imo it doesn't hold up to rest of the surrounding tracks.

Yeah I got the right one, I actually really like Smokes Quantity. The chords and melody of PSA have this sluggish feel to them, perhaps it's the slight portamento, or the descending three chord progression that just repeats over and over.

The drum programming never really grabbed me either. It sort of seems like they made a 'leftovers' track out of the samples used for Telephasic Workshop and An Eagle In Your Mind, and the result just doesn't seem to occupy the same importance as those other tracks. I do like that the title is a reference to an NFB film though, it's an interesting visual reference.

Subjectivity i s indeed fascinating. I love Rue the Whirl! I love how the beat pretty much stays the same but everything around it completely changes...the bass line in the latter part is almost jazzy.

I realize I am responding to old old posts but I don't care.

There are definitely some BoC tracks I don't care for but yeah...I don't feel the need to point them out I suppose but its somehow an interesting discussion to see the differences in opinion.

I really don't enjoy Gyroscope, always skip it - the heavy drums wind me up immediately and it doesn't go anywhere I like.

Probably the only BoC track I skip.

I go in and out of phases with rue the whirl. Sometimes I can really get into it, and sometimes I just... can't.

I don't really like smokes quantity

I love Open the Light, Happy cycling, zoetrope, constants are changing, chromakey dreamcoat.... OT1 10..A? the guitar-y one. And sixtyniner. and sequoia and boqurant and 5-9-78 shit i love a lot more than i mildly dislike.

I really don't hate any BoC tracks, just some are really boring, don'y evolve, and some are frankly dissonant and annoying (I'm looking at you, Smokes Quantity!). The worst offender in my opinion is Zoetrope. It just doesn't change, so the whole time I'm waiting for a countermelody, some drums, ANYTHING. Just not my cup of tea.

One man's trash is another mans treasure. I've observed that the common least favourite tracks on MHTRTC are often the standouts for people of a different sensibility. I've heard a few people call either Telephasic Workshop, Rue The Whirl and Pete Standing alone their favourite.

A lot of people use Rue The Whirl as a canvas for freestyling over. I find this hilarious, yet at the same time it makes perfect sense. You might notice that a lot of hip-hop tracks use a similar sort of progression or otherwise sampled noise on loop as backing for the whole duration of the song.

I'd love an organised "BoC fans freestyle over Rue The Whirl in a beautiful place out in the country" event. Go to some hill somewhere and take turns stepping up to the mic. It could be wonderful.

Umm.....Chinook is absolutely slamming........I don't get how someone wouldn't like that.

I know "slamming" is not strictly what BoC is about but its a lovely surprise to have a brute of a song like that jump up on you mid album

Zoetrope as has already been mentioned, is IMO the worst of all. Its great that its a struggle to find songs you don't like.

you don't get that with many artists

Magic Window from Geogaddi. There's no music not even a sound. Waste of space at the end of the album if ya ask me.
