Will the Avalanches ever release a follow up?

Post by Scotronica »

What an amazing record "Since I Left You" is

It been such a long wait and I'm not sure they can match this masterpiece anyway

Will they release a follow up?
Probably. They've already had artists record vocals for it or other projects they've done. And they've probably spent a lot of time with their submissions for the King Kong musical.

Will it be as good as/better than SILY?
Not likely, but there's always hope.

I think we'll get the Anniversary Edition of SILY before we'll see the new record tho.

If I'm correct, they made an announcement about a year back saying they are working on the follow-up to Since I Left You. No other news has really trickled out since..but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. This year has seen a wide array of awesome music releases, particularly from bands that hadn't had any output in years (BoC, MBV, QOTSA, and more)...so if that's any indication, maybe a new record isn't that far off?

EDIT - Here's what's known about it so far http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Avalan ... cond_album

if these guys release a record this year then that would have to be some sort of holy trinity, Daft Punk, BoC and The Avalanches?

I dunno.

And where does MBV factor into all of this?

just insanity.

Man I love that Album pure brilliance
A clearance in a wooded area, you startle a deer, it runs into the pines. Vast turquoise lakes and icy rivers, crisp mountain air. A bald eagle soars above. The distant sound of a chainsaw. Redwood smoke

If they release it soon it would make this year an incredible year for music, without a doubt.

Yeah there's absolutely no doubt there's gonna be a new album, they're not gonna scrap an album they've confirmed that they've been working on for like 7-8 years.

I'm hopeful for a late 2013/early 2014 release but who knows with them, i don't know if this year is any more likely than any of the last 4 years.

Well it's just a matter of time really, they've said many times over the years that the album is "nearly finished" or they were clearing samples.
Here are the artists that are collaborating on the album from what i've heard:
ariel pink, jonti, connan mokasin, jennifer rtx, danny brown.

I don't really know how i feel about them featuring guest singers though because i loved their use of vocal samples on Since I Left You so much.

Also, this was their description of what it was sounding like in 2007 if you guys haven't seen this before:
"it's so fuckin' party you will die, much more hip hop than you might expect"
Apparently it started off with a lot of world music samples but became more of a party album later on, they've mentioned the album tells a story through the vocal samples.

They'll get there have faith, just that they have split ways and sample clearing must be an immense headache. I have hope for this year :)

Yeah, I have a feeling that i've gotten way too excited and i'll be heavily disappointed if they delay it once more.
But still, this is the first time that we have any possible release dates that aren't something like "probably this year". So I guess this is more promising.

I'm not getting overly excited by this. Not gonna get excited until I see a button I can pre-order the album :P

I wonder if we'll ever see that 10 Year Anniversary edition of SILY?

Looking forward to that reissue, especially the remixes from mf doom, black dice and the avalanches themselves.
