This. But I think he has a point to an extent of the impact that MHTRTC had on everyone. Compare the amount of times you've listened to any other album of theirs, I'll bet MHTRTC is the top.
The Campfire Headphase for me, and it's in my all-time top 5 records.
It's hard for to me to admit to myself, but so far I'm not particularly excited about this song. Hopefully it's due to the poor quality. If not, then hopefully I'll like the full album more.
It's sounds like it's more in the TCH direction... which I won't say is bad, but which I didn't like as much. It has no discernible melody. Many of my favorite tracks are memorable for their melodies... Turq Hex Sun, Kaini Industries, Roygbiv, Alpha and Omega, Open The Light. Other favorites that are less melody oriented though would be Sunshine Recorder or Dawn Chorus.
It also lacks that worn sound they're known for. The harmony isn't particularly interesting or moving to me... from what I can hear, something like
Db major, B major7, repeat...

F minor, Eb minor
I fully support the brothers in going in the direction that they want to. I'm just saying that so far it's just not for me so much. Still looking forward to a higher quality version. Also I should mention that I did quite like the music to the first transmission video (the one unlocked at the terminal). I like the darker harmony there.

Do people really care if they shoot video footage themselves or not?
At the end of the day if it works with the music its all good, it don't matter if Neil Krug or anyone shot it, it's what it looks like.
And to me it all looks good.
BoC have a retro vibe, this (to me) is undeniable. And this footage goes well with everything so far. The AdultSwim video is beautiful to me.

I wouldn't agree with you on that. The syths sound like they might be layered with strings which makes me immediatly think of Dayvan Cowboy tbf but personally, I think it sounds more like MHTRTC era to me. It's about 136bpm which is quite fast for BoC and that beat structure is really interesting. Unlike most of the hip hop influenced beats of TCH. I think we do need to hear a proper version before we can say for sure though.
Either way, I've not been disappointed with anything in the TH stuff so far. I really cannot f**king wait!

this harmony or Arp sound some are calling does remind me of something or a few somethings i've heard before of course, either done on a guitar or synth, its nothing new, its simple yes. I don't think its like J Carpenter exclusively, so many bands use this sort of harmony like even Tool for eg. I guess BOC just take the simple and make it pronounced, hmm encased within a track. its all within the context of the entire track at the end of the day.
its now on repeat in my head, its memorable thats for sure.

I'm with you. Maybe it's just because it's where my own head is at and I'm just seeing what I want to see, but from what I've read of them they seem very concerned with the present and future state of the world and the nostalgia relates just as much to the mood of the day as it does to the past. I never really got the sense it was just a shallow "hey weren't the 70s weird and cool?" sort of thing.
That's why I've been a little "ehhhh" about the Neil Krug thing. But I can't imagine they stopped caring about the state of the world. I can see where people are making the cold war connection, but I keep seeing it in terms of things going on right now. From the song titles I get a strong environmentalists vibe (which of course is strongly related to socioeconomics and globalization too), but like I said, I could just be seeing what I want to see.
I also realize I'm probably not being very objective about that guys blog post. To a casual fan who doesn't like a lot of their stuff the hype probably does seem ridiculous, but to a huge fan like me it's just like "of course I'm fucking excited! It's boards of canada for god's sake!"

Oh yeah, of course it's not exclusively, but what immediately sprang to mind when I heard the Tomorrow's Harvest Transmission (the 4:45 one) was Carpenters The Thing main theme. Maybe it's just the 'vibe' of it. There's tons of influences in BoC's music, and they all make up something original.
Alright so i just watched some of the bootleg up until the actual beat came in and what sounds to be guitar? Anyway i was pretty unimpressed by the beginning when it was just that classic boardsy bass drum pattern but i mean hey, they can do what they want. The visuals were awesome imo so thats good. I really wish boc would just upload the video to their youtube already so i can get the full experience. Also one more thing. This song seems like it could be off the album. is it?
What I was expecting before hearing this track, and this track kind of confirms my expectations, is a sound kind of similar to Trans Canada Highway (minus Dayvan Cowboy). Especially in terms of production. I'm sure there will be plenty of new unexpected stuff, and possibly some throwbacks to older BoC, but that's my expectation for the album. Which I'm glad to say. Trans Canada Highway has really grown on me over the years and I actually strongly prefer it over IABPOITC at this point.

Do we know the track length of the exclusive track for the Japan TH edition? That may be the song from the video, it'd give more sense for why the transmission happened in Tokyo I guess.

I'm kiiiinnnnnda with you, but if you turn it up as high as you can and pay close attention, theres tons of layers and sounds that are barely audible. I think a normal listening of this track will be completely different.
