Back on topic: most recent listen I noticed those kinda 'high pitched helicopter-blade/drum-chops towards the end, panning around... f*cking awesome!!

and...ya...the last couple seconds...the percs get AWESOME. wished it went on a little longer. its like a whole new track is starting...then it just stops. so good!

"reach for the dead" is a marvel of production - it's absolutely immaculate. "turquoise hexagon sun" now sounds pretty quaint in comparison. however in my heart i still love those early, dorky tracks like "turquoise" and "seeya later."

That's funny, "immaculate" is the exact word I used to describe this song to a friend today. And I really love what you call their "dorkier" tracks too, and to be honest I have probably listened to the old tunes more than any other release. But I have a growing fondness for their less melodic, more ethereal songs.

I've been a fan since around the same time as you and it is remarkable how many changes their sound has gone through, it always feels the same at it's heart to me, though I will admit that it's nearly impossible for me to be objective about them. I think they're probably the group I've loved the longest with no real wane in admiration. I have an embarrassing amount of affection for them.

I think my favorite part in the video is the little moment where the sun is coming through the window of the abandoned house and it skitters with the drum. Such a nice touch. It kind or reminded me of Michel Gondry in a small way.

The track is growing on me. The beautiful pads and chord progression make me want to stand around a campfire with people listening to this as soon as possible. Still not a big fan of the crunchy/bitcrushed percussion, though.

i confess i had a wane in admiration circa 2010 - 2012 when i assumed they'd just given up on music to be stay-at-home dads in the woods or wherever they live. but otherwise i agree with everything you said. in fact you might be my twoism.org soul mate.

This track reminds me of a quote by one of my favorite architects, which was “I never want to make structures that are clear. I want to make structures that at first glance you do not understand”

His methodology was that creating a building that was immediately understood would no longer be contemplated by those who experience it; it would gradually recede into the periphery as it no longer possessed a certain mystery that kept visitors interested. However something more complex, something with many layers, riddled with small decisions, minute alterations and deviations from the expected, is able to maintain a continued curiosity, providing a different sensation every time.

Each time I listen to this song, there's another layer revealed, each time a different emotion, different reaction. I'm really excited to see how this track is part of the larger TH story.

Yes, you're right about that..low end sounded beeeeeeautiful though. My entire class probably thought I was out of my mind, nobody else really is into this style of electronic music. But whatever, it was totally worth it! I ran out of time so I didn't get the NS-10 test..that will happen when I'm back there Monday

Haha as much as I agree about the video, and hope once I give my ears a rest with a TCH interlude and get back to it will be as ethereal as you describe, not that I haven't already had a slight eargasm/braingasm already.. I might add.

BUT!~ I think the reason they took 8 years or so to release another piece of music is because they took a family orientated sabbatical and more than likely moved away from each other, possibly to different sides of the world.. I like to think that one of them has permanently moved to Tasmania or New Zealand as it seems to me to be the most BOC appropriate place to live, with what I can only infer as their "style" or "personal intricacies". Then they got back together and jammed out this album.. That's the way I see it anyway. The were pissing in each other pockets no doubt for some time there during the late 90's and early 2000's, and who wouldn't get a little boxed in with that?

With a seemingly single DJ name, it is often wrongly assumed that DJ Food is single person. In fact, a whole host of DJs, producers and musicians have performed under the name, so the evolutionary nature of the DJ Food sound comes as no surprise. Matt Black and Jonathan More (aka Coldcut) were responsible for starting Jazz Brakes series in the early 90s.

I find myself conflicted when watching the video because I find myself wanting to close my eyes and just get lost in the music, but I also want to keep them open since I really like the visuals. I'm very fortunate that this is my biggest dilemma on my mind right now
