Honestly, please someone tell me what the fuck happened to this band.

This is just so fucking heavy and relentless.

Money sucks. Ruined this band, well and truly.

Opeth have some really amazing tunes. Ghost of Perdition is one of the most well composed songs I have ever heard.

ISIS were a great band and it is a shame they split. I never got to see them live

metal isn't a thing that I do usually (note my absence from this thread)

but I've been listening to the leak of the new Deafheaven record, and I think it's pretty great.

It's just unlike any metal I've ever heard, it's not exactly pummelling, it's more anthemic than depressing, and it makes me actually enjoy (or able to stand) the usual things about metal I don't like such as shrieked vocals and the double kicked drumming.

It's like if a black metal band got Kevin Shields to play guitar for them.

True enough. Was lucky enough to catch them right at their zenith, just as the Black album came out. ie. right at the point just before they went from underground to Led Zeppelin. Then around 2004, they did a secret gig at Donington in a tent on the second stage. Ripped my head off. On - 35 mins, no gaps, no chat, opened with 'Battery', I grinned like a twat. yeah... there was some good metal bands. now it's all pretty much shit. tosin abasi is the best most innovative musician out there at the moment, but i won't even buy that and yes i know it's a bit off topic but the only music i'll be buying this year is the new boc, maybe... i'm really doubting the new song. the best music you will really hear is if you produce music yourself and let it develope over time and everytime you make it into something you become proud of, it becomes a favorite or however you want to phrase it.

Ah thats a cool story, yeah shame they are beyond parody now. The will to succeed killed them I guess, once they made it that was it. All the fire and aggression gone. Shame.

Ulcerate is finishing up recording on their new album. I'm looking very forward to it. The Destroyers Of All was my favourite album of 2011!

yes i did hear that and i've heard some samples of their music.....its meh i guess.

couple of my friends from high school were really into deftones for a while but i could never get into them for some reason, although i don't mind them. they're not on my ipod or anything though.

I dug out some of my old metal albums today and was surprised how much I still enjoyed some of them. 'Clandestine' by Entombed is pretty epic, and the production is really good! The kick has some good bottom end to it instead of just being that rubbish tinny double pedal clickety click you used get on a lot of stuff. I might see if I still have some of my Carcass to have another listen and try and decipher what the fuck he's on about...

Wasn't going to share, but saw the thread pop up and figures why not...

Saturday was a 'good day'. My best mate landed us both free tickets to see Iron Maiden at the O2, plus VIP passes into the band's private hospitality party (both pre and after show) courtesy of his mate Harry, who once upon a time was editor for Metal Hammer magazine across Europe.

Rocked up at the O2 and cut through all the proles into the VIP / valet parking area. Proper red carpet treatment, straight into the venue no problems. All very 'Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir...'.

Straight into the VIP party after being asked which member of the band we were with! Free food and booze all night, and I don't just mean a pie and a pint either. Massive ice buckets on each table with beer, wine, bottle of Jack Daniels, Absolut, etc etc etc. I wasn't driving either so, y'know, score!!

Apart from meeting Nico McBrain for the second time (what a top bloke!) I was also sat next to the dad of British Theater's new drummer, who introduced himself when he clocked my Oceansize t-shirt.

Anyway, Maiden played a blinder running the old Seventh Son of a Seventh Son setlist. How blokes in their 50's and 60's can lob themselves about at that pace for two hours is beyond me. Incredible.

Any metal heads in here who listen to less mainstream metal? Has anybody listened to the new Gorguts album? Every time I check this forum I wonder what the fuck im doing here as the majority of the music I listen to is metal.

Well, I'm really into Gorguts and the like. I didn't know they had a new album out, I thought the whole group was put to rest after the guitarist died..

This doesn't sound bad at all actually. I was expecting it'd be super mario metal like seems to be the trend these days, especially with comeback bands.

The album isn't out until August 30th but it has leaked online. What do you mean by super mario metal like? If you like the dissonant sound in the new Gorguts you should check out Ulcerate "The Destroyers Of All." They also have a new album coming out in September. Have you listened to Fallujah? That band is AMAZING.
