hmmm. creating this much excitement over a simple reveal to the shooting locations which were already established by some of the sharp locals on this forum? i hope thats not it. especially since i am currently getting packed for the 6 hour drive.Techboy wrote:All talk of a meetup aside, I think what is actually happening here is probably that the song from the video clip played at the festival earlier is going to be played on NPR or something and then released on the website. I reckon the map is just of where the video was filmed, see graphic on bocpages.
A is the drive-in theater.
B is the gas station.
C is the area covered in the tweet regarding May 27th 2013.

Thank you soo much for your reassurance. I really needed it. Despite my selfishness i really do hope there is a show tomorrow. Better get full 1080p hd for me seeing as how traveling there wont be an option!! If you do go plz send me the vid! I'll return the favor any way I can.paul wrote:hang on to your soul Helicoid. i'm bringing my rig ... if there's a show and they are cool, it will get recorded - video and audio. whatever happens, i will post as soon as i get back. despite you wanting it NOT to happen if you aren't there (and i can understand) - please everyone, pray it DOES happen ... cuz it would just be the most insane thing in a decade and, well, i'll be shooting it!Helicoid wrote:I think you guys have persuaded me to save my jupiter. Sorry, I originally posted this in the wrong topic. Here it is.
I just want to post my 2¢ about the upcoming May27th event.
WeHadNormality mentioned the fact that there is a drive-in theater located nearby. Most drive-in theaters broadcast the audio of the movies through the airwaves, using low power AM/FM transmitters. People simply need to tune-in using their car radio.
That concept totally fits the "numbers station" campaign. BoC could simply broadcast the album using the theater's transmitters.
It's only a theory, but if you're going to drive there tomorrow, I strongly suggest that you bring:
- a camera
- lots of water
- a AM/FM radio receiver with a tape recorder

its all good mate. 1080p to be sure (wish i had a mark III but my mark II will fit the bill)! if this was say, after July (when the new Black Magic 4K cinema camera arrives at my doorstep) i'd say 1080p shmeneightypee. but they haven't yet shipped the 4K cameras ... so 1080p it shall be my friend! still, whatever happens i plan to capture it (if they are cool with cameras).Helicoid wrote:Thank you soo much for your reassurance. Has anyone mentioned that there's a huge decommissioned solar power plant in this area? Would kind of fit into what we know of the possible themes of TH.
Info from wiki:
The worlds first commercial solar power plants, SEGS I (built in 1984) and SEGS II (built in 1985) of the SEGS network are located in Daggett.
Daggett was also home to a unique solar thermal energy plant named Solar One, a pilot project which was operational from 1982 to 1986. The plant used mirror-like heliostats to aim sunlight at a collecting sphere located on a solar power tower (a type of solar furnace), through which oil flowed.
During calibration of the power plant's thousands of heliostats, a ball of glowing light was sometimes seen in the nearby area. This effect was caused by the heliostats focusing sunlight onto a specific point. As the intensity of the light increased, it reflected off dust in the desert air. This phenomenon was sometimes seen by passersby on the nearby highways 40 and 15.

Get there. Someone.
Wow, you located the exact area on a Google Map in under 5 min? I know you said earlier that you were combing the area of Yermo for landmarks, but that is super impressive. Will you be going?

That's all.
Daft Punk is a major commercial act. Nobody was expecting anything obscure from them (oh yeah, they wear helmets...). They market their music as a commercial product. No wonder why the nature of their launch party was massively advertised.
For the past weeks, BoC did the exact opposite. They used cryptic messages and very underground PR (not even sure if we can call it that way) techniques. We do understand that, in the past, they never had listening parties in non-major cities. But this whole campaign is so unique that it's totally legitimate to expect anything that could be "outside of the box".
Could it happen? It could... I'm a bit concerned that they are playing with fire for this, though. It is dangerous to raise expectations by posting something like this without being more upfront about what's going to happen. I mean, they know there are fans willing to go to extreme lengths, so could potentially backfire if it's the event ends up not being what people are hoping for.
two days from now it will all be history but just like the good people who hustled to Shibuya square, they were part of something special. that works for me.
My brother and I flew out to Scotland for the Earlyburn, Redmoon-mystery in 2006. That was way crazier. Even though BOC didn't show, we got to hang out with some other great fans and someone was smart enough to come up with a good stereo and we played a Best of mix while we made a fire and camped out together. Worst case scenario, we get to do something similar at this location. It will feel like a little piece of history. I'm just glad I can just drive out this time, and not hop on a long flight

Were you one of the ones at Earlyburn, Redmoon in 2006 as well?wwbjd wrote:I hope there is something waiting for all of those making the trip. I really do. If it's anything like previous trips, at the bare minimum you have the chance of meeting other die-hard fans.
I also hope it's something on-line that I can watch at 7pm my time.

OK, the "Skyline Drive-In" and Coke Sign are uncanny.WeHadNormality wrote:The parking lot looks plenty big enough for a gathering. There's a big sign that could double up as a screen
and there's a Coke sign there too
That gas station certainly looks like the one from the RFTD video. And the entrance to the Park's parking lot is certainly the place in the map image posted on WarpMedia. While there's plenty of parking and that billboard could be used as a screen, I wonder...
Wouldn't the drive-in theater be a more ideal and safer spot? Especially to project a new video? The Drive In is still active though, and shows features later in the evening. So 5pm, its not in use, but out there it isn't dark enough to show anything with a projector. Would have to be closer to 8pm. But also, the theater is further down the road and not on the map image that was shared with the date.
Maybe we listen to new music at the old water park and then go to the drive-in to see something new, or maybe they'll screen Deadly Harvest at the theater for us
Maybe we'll just get a new clue when we're there.

If anything I think it's far more likely we're misreading things and being overzealous rather than getting trolled. Why would anyone be that meanspirited? Like it might be funny to joke about "ha I bet we could get these crazy fans to drive to the desert" but it would be a serious dickbag move to actually do it.PlatrixECV wrote:Just joined. I will be going, I've been waiting 15 years for something, anything to do with BoCs local to me. We're probably all getting trolled, but whatever.
All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
