I can see how this could possibly be considered a waltz. Although waltzes usually involve an irregular time signature (triple-meter 3/4) and the "hesitation" you are thinking of is more involving the dance and not the music. this is modern day stutter-step and yes j-dilla didnt invent it, but neither did boards. Its not a style they have used recently at all and i dont see why they would all of a sudden incorporate it when its already been done heavily more than a decade ago.
to throw shade at boc for referencing older styles of music is kind of ironic don't you think? i mean that's what made them famous in the first place.

Good point. Not saying I don't like the song, or that I don't understand giving a nod to other talented artists or styles. All im saying is that it totally caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting it and I was curious to see what the general consensus was.
Man, you are not having a good time. Negativity in every one of these threads. Just wait until it's released. I'm not saying that you'll like it, I'm just saying that hearing it fragmented is inevitably going to seem strange. If everyone only heard "The Devil is in the Details" they would have figured that Geogaddi was a bum album. However, in context, it's an incredible song.
And I love Devil in the Details, I've just noticed that a lot of people apparently dislike it as a single song.

I haven't listened to these clips, and probably won't if they're low quality, but its interesting to hear that their 8 year absence has been flecked with inspiration from their contemporaries, much like a few more open posters speculated was possible in earlier posts.
Rather wonky beat FlyLo material than dub step, that's my take!
I still really can get this one, it sound terrible to me, like an amateur discovering a loop music system and doing the same thing during 4 minutes, with bad tempo and melodies. Trying to imitating the classic old Boc synth sound.
Reach of the dead is amazing, and it's the only track from those we've heard until now that sound coherent to me compared with how their production evolve the last years(before the 8 years black hole...).
I will admit, this is the only one I was fully disappointed with. It goes absolutely nowhere. I really hope the album changes after this, but by the way the track by track review sounds, this is going to be a really repetitive and stagnant record.

Do you feel the same way about Gyroscope? The brief amount I heard of Jacquard Causeway reminded me of it. Gyroscope doesn't really go anywhere either but I consider it an absolutely essential part of Geogaddi.
i'm totally for unbiased, objective talk, but condemning the whole album based on another persons review and a song filmed and streamed from a mans phone into your ears is stupid
Guys, don't worry about the criticism..especially at this stage. I'm just happy BoC are continuing to make music, they didn't have to make this record.

Of course, BoC have never ever employed repetition in their music to great effect.
Yeah, it's a very unsettling and broken sounding piece of music, but I do like it. I myself have no qualms about BoC experimenting with other sounds outside of their comfort zone, either, that's called evolution.
