04. Jacquard Causeway (6:35)

It's cool that people are in to it instantly and others are not. maybe they'll grow or maybe it will never ring a chord with them. Who cares? I personally feel it feels like when I first heard Geogaddi. I was kind of non plussed and all that I could remember hearing was the Gyroscope repetition which grated a little. From the instant MHTRTC to this I was kind of over it but a few more listens and the gold shone through and not long after the album came together as one piece as a listening experience. The same happened with Plaid, Spokes and that is near the top of my favourite albums.

I'm trying not to expect that this will do the same because it might not but I do like what i'm hearing already.

I have to actually say I love all the John Carpenter influences I'm hearing too.

And damn, Jacquard is getting better and better - it's so mangled, but there is an odd kind of structure to it. Oh, and it does develop subtly - it definitely goes somewhere that much is certain. Especially from 2:00 on it does a lot of cool things, and I absolutely love that odd, depressed bass that enters.

A lot like Rue the Whirl, it's hypnotic, but it does twist it's sound inconspicuously.

I've listened to that Jacquard Causeway vid quite a few times now.
Really enjoying this track. It's repetition, nice synths very boc yet quite jazzy sounding, can't wait to hear all the little bits layered in that yu can't hear on the youtube video.

I really don't see where the hate is at lol.

I can't really listen to that recording. I can tell that it doesn't sound the way it's intended to, for a start. Once you find the drums everything kinda falls into place, and it is just a very simple 3/4 drum groove - it's everything else that's crazy.

It's repetitive on the surface, but it does actually develop quite a bit. It's hard to hear do to the quality but there is actually a whole fucking lot going on with this tune. And it's all of it held together by this wonderfully lethargic and broken percussion.

Listen to it up until the two minute mark and it turns into a whole new animal. It does so subtly, but yeah, there is a whole lot that walks in. That weird bass line right after the two minute mark is fantastic.

I really, really dig this track. I am by no means someone who jumps the gun on stuff, but already, with this kind of quality even, it's approaching the top of my list.

As far as I can tell, I don't like this one at all. Beat is too sloppy sounding for my tastes.

That beat is soooo loose, and that huge snare too. Surely this has to be their "dopest beat yet".
I like how the beat and the melodies seem to drift in and out of sync throughout. Looking forward to hearing this one a lot.

So I've been listening to this track more and more, and despite the shoddy sound quality, it continually gives me goosebumps.

All the swirling synths in the background - it's like all these gorgeous melodies are fighting for dominance with not a one of them actually succeeding. So you're getting all these lovely flourishes, but it only lasts for a bit because they're all so broken. And that ominous bass, with that one-two, rim-shot snare looming in the background.

2:40 and onwards is stained beauty. Really apologize for the gushing, but hot damn, I really like what this track has accomplished. Can't wait for a legitimate listen.

They also have some similarities in the melody lines as well. There's a little melodic florish in one of the synths in Rue the Whirl where it goes (IX-VIII-V) (above the tonic, I'm listening to Random Access Memories right now, so I can't tell you what key they're in). A very similar harmonic sequence shows up frequently in Jacquard, which may be why the MHTRTC comparisons keep popping up.

I personally don't mind since Rue the Whirl is my 2nd fave off of MHTRTC. Behind Happy Cycling.

this song actually did remind me of the likes of rue the whirl. it's kind of unnerving.

yeah I saw part of this on the stream last night and I could tell this one needs a closer listen. Gonna wait on the release to listen to it again. Excited to hear it based on some of these descriptions though.

It's muddy, but you can discern most of the actual tune fairly well, so I dunno why a person would yield to this one, but listen to the others; most of it's there and outside of sounding cleaner, it probably won't sound any different. I guess I understand the want for a cleaner listen, though, if you want to hear an extra bleep or two.

I do love the bass and the snare just gluing this tornado together kinda. But I really like Dawn Chorus too, and it kinda gives me those vibes - just a gorgeous and broken bit of music.

I did. But I won't jump to conclusions. This is a bad recording and maybe there are some moving parts sitting on the mix. And maybe it will take a good listen with headphones for the hypnotic Gyroscope-esque quality to settle in. If I do find that it does, then I will be content. But I will be honest, the reason gyroscope is such a monumental part of Geogaddi is the detail. They obviously spent a long long time sculpting the sounds in that song. I remember my jaw was hanging open the first time I heard that track. This track though, or what I can hear from the recording, doesn't have that effect on me and it sounds like they didn't take it as far as they could perfection-wise. Then of course, this song could have a perfect place in relation to the whole album.
