Listening to BoC in yr sleep: who does this and its benefits
Comparatively more in the zone and on it for the day when I do this compared to when I don't. Except for when I listen to Geogaddi, which fucks me up very, very badly. So, I made a playlist of their discog from Old Tunes Vol 1 up to Trans Canada, excluding Geogaddi. I woke up twice for about thirty seconds, once in the middle of Bocuma (the MHTRTC version) and once to '84 Pontiac Dream. Usually, when I wake up in the middle of a tune, I turn off whatever I'm listening to. This time, I left it on. It's just excellent deep-sleep music. I don't remember any of my dreams, so I think it was just the tunes and I.
Anyhow, who does this or has, what has been your experience and what are some of the benefits and/or drawbacks of sleeping to BoC?

It sounds like you're putting a record down when you say it sends you to sleep but it can be a positive thing in a lot of ways.
For some reason, if I lay in bed and put Geogaddi on, I seem to always drift off between The Beach At Redpoint and Alpha and Omega. Maybe it's just that I take a set amount of time to fall asleep but I've put on a lot of albums to fall asleep to over the years and have never noticed a consistent pattern apart from with Geogaddi.

there was a long bit in high school when I would constantly fall asleep to MHTRTC. I would start it at different points in the record each night because eventually I'd be falling asleep at the same points if just starting from the beginning.
i never really noticed any effects or anything about it (except noticing a lot of detail in the music itself), I just wanted to listen to it all the time

Geogaddi was the first album I had tried this with.
I lay down, put on the album, Ready Let's Go fades in. I close my eyes.
It instantly brings me to a whole new, calmingly psychedelic world as the album ticks over to Music is Math.
What I'm saying here... The music these men produce has a beautiful soporific effect on the mind. Calming, it helps one dream.
However, it did take me a while to actually finish the album...I'd always fall asleep about 20-30 minutes into it.
Tried this with some other albums. Music Has the Right to Children, good. Trans Canada Highway, even better than Geogaddi. The Campfire Headphase, not so much. Too different.

Trans Canada Highway is the best to doze off in. I once fell asleep at the very end of Left Side Drive, the small vignette. Absolutely amazing.

I don't usually listen to music when I sleep, but there was like a two month streak where I listened to MHTRTC when I got into bed. I always fell asleep around the time the voices in telephasic workshop started up. It was pleasantly hypnotic. Didn't notice anything about a change in the quality in sleep. I don't even remember why I started doing it. Probably backmasked subliminal messages "listen to this at sleepy time 666".
All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

Since I became a fan of the band, I have always listened to their music while sleeping. I usually listen to chillout/mellow tunes while sleeping anyway, and when I first got into them, I would pass out to entire albums (MHTRTC, Geogaddi, TCH and so forth). Nowadays I more have a selection of songs I know I can sleep to..it always sends me off into dreamland in a pleasant way. Hypnotic and soothing...even better when the music seeps thru into a dream I'm having!! Love it when that happens
The preparation for a dive is always a tense time.

Good idea, why didn't I think of that?iec wrote:I would start it at different points in the record each night because eventually I'd be falling asleep at the same points if just starting from the beginning.
I used to fall asleep listening to lots of music, not just Boards of Canada, when I was younger. I'm a tinnitus sufferer and it would really become noticeable in absolute silence, so the radio and later ambient music stopped me from going insane. For the last few years I've been leaving my PC (which is close to my bed) on 24/7, and the sound of it idle working away is enough ambient noise to keep the tinnitus at bay, so I've fallen out of the habit.
