Kid For Today is a great track for a snooze. I love it...
I always feel like I'm in a dream when I hear that track regardless if I'm awake or not... it has a very nice haze of an atmosphere you can just unwind to. Cloudy, foggy and smokey but calm and peaceful.
The beat also has a weird way of hypnotizing me, so that also helps.

you don't care to hear until you listen
i used to have a playlist which was all the nice beatless boc tracks that were more texture based, having that on a loop was really nice (one time i just played olson through the whole night on repeat).
about 2-3 times a week i will plug in my ipod or turntable to my speaker and play some beatless or repetitive music
here are some really good artists for sleeping to:
brian eno's ambient 1: music for airports
geotic's mend (will's whole geotic discography is great for sleeping to)
bibio's early stuff / acoustic-lofi sound (fi, ovals and emeralds, vignetting in the compost)
various ghost box artists (advisory circle, belbury poly, focus group..)
pye corner audio's discography
china and spiral by vangelis

Also, it's weird that y'all are digging beatless tracks, mostly? I find them difficult to sleep to, too much room and space for conscious thought. I like something that has an insistent nod to it (which is why Bocuma and its cousin tracks are so good for sleep: not too insistent, but it has a good pulse). Which is why we do not listen to breakcore when we fall asleep: it's too rhythmically complex. I find I have the same difficulties with something rhythmless.

this is why i love this place ... for fun i clicked on the link. in all these years, i had no idea that the initial percussion (kind of like a rim shot) becomes something altogether different when you see what this clever guy did with his youtube video ... its the clicking of an old slide carousel! am i the last one to realize this?
LOVE IT ... you just made my day!
shit. reminds me i need to get on my slide scanning project - thanks for that too.

To echo many thoughts around here, for me IABPOITC is great to fall asleep to. I end up drifting to sleep slowly and reach a groggy, euphoric state. I will even play it quietly sometimes when I am meditating. TCH is nice as well but when I play that one I usually fall asleep almost instantly.
Also, hello everyone, been creeping on this site for awhile now and decided I'd start an account. Seems like you ladies and gents have a very cordial and respectful community, contrary to some places I have browsed.

Me too! As a freshman in college. Mornings seemed so trippy when I did that.rainier wrote:I used to have my alarm set to Dawn Chorus. That was really nice.

I'm going to go there and listen to Geogaddi until I transcend.

IABPOITC is indeed a beautiful release, but I think I would be afraid to fall asleep to it. The cult imagery surrounding that album gives the peacefulness of the ambiance a really uneasy feeling that I wouldn't want to result in some pretty weird dreams. I don't want to see David Koresh in my sleep. eee.
That said, the best music I have ever found for sleeping to is Grouper. On nights where I am tossing and turning, the first side of the A I A album sends me off to good place nice and smooth.

I saw my future. I saw my past. For a few minutes it was like being alive.
I have no evidence to back this up, but I don't like to fall asleep with music on too often because I feel like brains need time away from external input so they can do their own thing. This is based on nothing but a "gut feeling" though, I'm certainly not a neurologist.
And that said I fell asleep in a cemetary listening to geogaddi today. It was way less creepy than it sounds. It was just so hot out and I was hanging out under a tree and the next thing I knew I was snoozing, it was really nice.

All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
