Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but a record store on twitter has stated that the download card is for a bonus track

There have been a lot of "games" with this release, but that's not really the direction I like to see this go

You can now pre-order the new Boards Of Canada from us (in store only) and in doing so you will get this:
A pre-order card that contains a unique code that you can download unreleased tracks
A BOC poster
A two dollars off the retail price (it will be $25 for pre-order as opposed to $27

Don't go preordering another copy of the album just for this, it'll be posted online instantly anyway, there's no need to worry. Your bleep order is likely to come with a card or sticker or something of the like too. All the orders come with some form of bonus.

not a big deal. I'm sure everyone who pre ordered will get something as a bonus.

materialism aside, the "bonus" tracks will be put on to the internet. I have no problem illegally downloading some tracks off of an artist I have already put hundreds of dollars towards.

it's all in the context.

Be a nice surprise if the poster was included. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense giving bonus stuff away now with pre-orders, and nothing for rest of us who ordered it right away off Bleep upon announcement.

I wonder if the bonus tracks are just going to be the Cosecha Signals. I, for one, would have no problem with high quality mp3s of the Cosecha Signals. Imagine burning a disc for your car with them on it before the album or just playlisting them before the album. That would be pretty tasty.

Without leaking/exposing a code, is there any way to verify that we're getting the same code/s in different stores/cities?

...come to think of it that may be a great way to better track cash sales!

Why are people whining?

First BOC in 7 years... everything else is just nothing, there's new BOC and suddenly life is good!
