they had it pulled in 2007, they have that counter argument so ebay has done it before.nordheim wrote:im sure jasper johns would flail about if his work ended up on ebay too, but boc legally forfeited ownership of said materials and content upon mailing out this as a promo 15 years ago. ebay has no claim in listening to the band or label as they are 1. very old. 2. been released in other forms elsewhere. 3. legally obtained by owner. and 4. is a real, tangible item, not a mockup or fake. course they would, no decent, ethically minded artist (boc i still hope) wants to see ther fans ripped off on something that was never put on sale to the public in the first place, it wasnt to be released out, end of.ZosoCon wrote:Even if I were rich as hell, It would still be difficult for me to buy a cassette tape for $1500 out of principle. Seems like a huge meltdown and a big assumption that BoC has somehow blessed these auctions. I somehow don't think their stance on it has changed, I'm sure they would rather be profiting from their own work rather than letting someone else do it.thepastinsidepressant wrote:course they would, no decent, ethically minded artist (boc i still hope) wants to see ther fans ripped off on something that was never put on sale to the public in the first place, it wasnt to be released out, end of.ZosoCon wrote:Even if I were rich as hell, It would still be difficult for me to buy a cassette tape for $1500 out of principle. i hope it gets pulled down and rightly so.
just because its expensive and out of your and my budgets doesnt mean its taking advantage of anyone. its just allowing it be at least be apart of the marketplace. id like to point to the self inflicted $5,700 a recent 20 second long recording got... (i know it didnt actually sell for that, but my point is still valid) ebay isnt playing by the rules if they pull it. beatles demo tapes have sold at auctions, along with private letters to fans and the fans arent the ones selling. multiple points of legal transaction before... if i were the brothers and i had some pal looking to sell something rare of mine i would say "go get as much as you can, we have a lot of rich fans apparently."thepastinsidepressant wrote:they had it pulled in 2007, they have that counter argument so ebay has done it before.nordheim wrote:im sure jasper johns would flail about if his work ended up on ebay too, but boc legally forfeited ownership of said materials and content upon mailing out this as a promo 15 years ago. ebay has no claim in listening to the band or label as they are 1. very old. 2. been released in other forms elsewhere. 3. legally obtained by owner. and 4. is a real, tangible item, not a mockup or fake. they got their blessing to take advantage of their fans who want it at that start bid? nice! very fucking nice! i'm starting to feel sick
We've already had the MP3s for years and I'd rather pay the creators of the work rather than an opportunist.jcotteri wrote:Oh god everybody already on their high horses.. How else can us normal folk ever get physically acquainted with their hard to find works if everyone was like this. Give us a chance
exactly, i would find it hard to believe that you have never listened to copies or have them in digital form... You know even those on Youtube...Mexicola wrote:And there in lies the conundrum. It wasn't meant to be released in the first place. ie. none of us should have it anyway. Whether we paid £1000 or £0, it's irrelevant. BOC didn't want you, or me, to have this - either via eBay, or Soulseek, Pirate Bay, or wherever else you get your copy from
Hey, I'm not digging at you, promise.jcotteri wrote:Oh god everybody already on their high horses.. How else can us normal folk ever get physically acquainted with their hard to find works if everyone was like this. Give us a chance
So if you were creative enough you could send them your hard earned dollars via paypal, i'm sure they would take it in good gratitude. Just pointing out that we can't be too holier-than-thou about someone selling a legit item that they were given legally, when I'd guess most of us have acquired the same item illegally via a download
I must go to bed now, and read this after work..
