First thing after seeing this thread was to look for this song. I rarely listen to it since it always chokes me up. I remember listening to it once after getting home drunk from the bar and becoming an absolute mess of tears.portiss wrote:The Cinematic Orchestra - To build a home
Porcupine Tree - Collapse The Light Into Earth can get me pretty close to tears if I'm in a sad mood.
I don't think a song has actually made me cry yet. Some songs make me feel really mellow though, I get that weird feeling in my chest. It's close to crying but not quite..
Corsair
Used to listen to this during some really bad depression I had. I would just listen to over and over again down by the train tracks and watch the trains go past. Listening to that song always reminds me of a very bad time in my life.
Tippy's Demise by Stars of the Lid
Similar reason as mentioned above. I can't really get into much of this band's music, but that song..wowzer...
Moonlight by Mono
So haunting.

And "Dead Sun" by Moby (though I also associate this with rough times). And absolutely Echus- but they're the most conflicted tears- tears of joy and sorrow and mourning and peace and love all in one emotional ball- well, that's BoC for ya!

I've loved this song for a long time now, but on one particularly loud listen, on a particularly moody day, something hit me and I just started crying.
specifically that version. The studio version isn't what it could be in my opinion. I had my headphones on, and when the singer hits that high note at 5:09, I teared up. I kept crying through the fade out with the guitar, which is one of the most tragic and sad things I've heard to this day. It's almost hard to listen to. Brings me straight back to my first bouts of depression and suicidal thoughts 2 winters ago.
Another headphones experience. This is one so strong, that I avoid the song altogether now. I had this playing on my ipod and I was in my backyard at dusk. I was sitting in the grass and I looked up at the treeline about a quarter mile away from my home and I started crying. I looped the song until the sun set, for the most part sniffling the whole time. The sunset was so dark and red and the leaves on the trees were dark greenish brown, and this one tree in particular looked like a tree you would see on the horizon of an african desert, and for whatever reason, it set me off crying. I cried over death, eternity, nature, and lots of other shit I can't even begin to define. Larger than life shit that is bigger and older than me and everything I've done and seen. I still feel it sometimes, it feels like a bright light opening up to me. This all sounds really dumb and pretentious, I know, but if I could somehow transfer thoughts and feeling digitally, you would all cry too. (I think)
(probably not)
(i'm weird)
JOKE
I get really pissed off at why I cry and why I correlate these feelings with death and depression. For fucks sake.
