Yup, something strange is afoot. It's hard to imagine that they suddenly had a come-to-Marcus moment (see what I did there) and realized a newfound sense of charity. There has to be some kind of quid pro quo.

Apparently some mystery fan (not mike/marcus or any warp/label rep) has come to some arrangement with the owners which doesn't involve money exchanging hands but will benefit everyone???

In this case, I think "everyone" means the buyer and seller. Or rather, giver and receiver.

What irks me most is that the auction was ended. That would irk me no matter what I was bidding on.

If they were asked to take it down, that would be one thing, but cutting a deal with another "fan" while the auction was running... ugh! Ok, that's all I'll have to say on it.

Interesting..I assumed as much when they disappeared. It still would be nice if the new owner makes some fancy new cassette rips for the fans....

wow thats bs, i didnt think you were allowed to make deals like that unless the auction ended without getting a price or meeting the reserve.
i thought once listed you had to let the auction run its course.

Offering something for sale and then changing the terms of a sale mid offering seems like a breach of agreement. Then again who would know stuff like this?

this is some pretty exaggerated optimism, but I wonder if this means old tunes releases through Planet Mu? If this exchange was done with BOC, it would prevent the physical tapes from ending up in undesired hands (and preventing further rips/content they didn't want out to continue spreading), would provide the brothers with a label to put out the old, pre-warp materials, and provide Mu/BOC with income based on sales...

The best solution for the seller would of been to swap the tapes for something of value (another music collectable) which they could then sell , ie a less contentious collectable, that way they would get the cash they need.

The dude who "exchanged" for the tapes has been posting on WATMM. Nothing of much interest, but meh:

1. I really am the guy who got them.
2. I'm definitely not the kind of guy to leak anything without written instruction (it's too much of a ball ache)

will post a video when they arrive. Fingers crossed tomorrow, I think they've been sent spesh delivery.
